Stories and art by Charles Biro, August Froehlich, Stan Schendel, and Fred Meagher. Sometimes listed as Tom Mix Commandos Comics #11. When movie cowboy Tom Mix's radio show hit it big, sponsor Ralston Purina offered Tom Mix Comics by mail for two boxtops of any Ralston cereal. The art, often uncredited, is exceptionally nice in this series. Tom Mix investigates after invisible bandits shoot up a Western town. Miserly Uncle Amos goes on night patrol for air raids, but he's his own worst enemy, in a story with art by comics legend Charles Biro. Navy pilot Speed O'Dare is allowed to escape Swiss detention when they learn he's only disguised as a Nazi, but now he must get redheaded secret agent Karen Dale safely back to Allied territory. The series takes a strong turn toward WWII home-front propaganda with material like What Every Young Patriot Should Know and Commandos and Their Weapons. Plus activities pages and magic tricks. #11 "Tom Mix to the Rescue." Text with illustrations. 2-3/8 in. x 2-3/4 in.; black and white; 8 pages. Promotional Tom Mix comic booklet distributed as a premium in 1934 by the National Chicle Company. These booklets were issued in a wrapper with a piece of gum and are rare in any condition.
