The Sub-Mariner leaves Latveria after having second thoughts about forming an alliance with Doctor Doom. Following Prince Namor's departure, the Latverian monarch realizes that he does in fact need help for his various plans of conquest and decides to reach out to the Prince of Atlantis. Meanwhile, the Sub-Mariner visits Hydro-base and is ambushed by a trio of villains: Tiger Shark, Doctor Dorcas, and Attuma! A super slugfest erupts on land and under the sea! Will the Avenging Son prevail? Flashback cameo appearances by the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Quicksilver, Spider-Man, Thor, and the Hulk to recap Doctor Doom's previous battles through the years. At the conclusion of Avengers 154, the Earth's Mightiest Heroes fell in battle to Tyrak. Now Attuma has outfitted the Avengers with slave-collars, and sent them to Hydrobase to fight the Sub-Mariner. However, when the six heroes arrive at Hydrobase; they do not find Namor, but instead...Doctor Doom! Meanwhile, the Beast and Wonder Man recruit the golden age Whizzer to help them rescue the other Avengers.
