Spiral Cage (1988) comic books
Diary of an Astral Gypsy. Story, art and cover by Al Davison, plus an introduction by Alan Moore. The first edition of the comics autobiography of British comics creator Al Davison. Davison describes his lifelong struggle with spina bifida, social prejudices against people with disabilities, and his creative career as an artist for DC Comics, martial arts instructor, filmmaker and performer. Spiral Cage later inspired a documentary film, also called The Spiral Cage, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Although it was notable as the first printing, this edition was poorly bound, and most copies were pulled by the publisher soon after publication. Expanded versions appeared later from Titan Books (1990) and Active Images (2003). 64 pages, B&W. Cover price $6.50.
