(In fact, the lack of an issue number or "Treasury of Comics" on the cover means this is sometimes listed as Abbie an' Slats (1948) #1.) The adventures of city boy Slats, his small-town sweetheart Becky, and Becky's reprobate father "Bathless Groggins," with exceptionally nice art by Raeburn Van Buren. When Bathless comes into a small fortune, the fortune-hunters come out of the woodwork. First One-Eyed Maggie shows up with proof of her long-forgotten marriage to Bathless. Jim Hardy, in turn, showcased the adventures of Hardy's cowboy friend Windy and Windy's horse, Paddles. When Apollo the donkey gets stuck on the railroad tracks, Windy needs the help of wealthy Bess Giltege to rescue him.
