Videotapes From Hell HC (2025 Applause) A Visual History of Cult, Collectible, and Crazy Video Covers 1-1ST

1st printing. Edited by Stephen Jones. Includes Contributions by Peter Atkins, Barry Forshaw, David McGillivray, Professor Sir Christopher Frayling, author of Vampyres and Nightmare: The B, Lisa Morton, Adam Simon, Ramsey Campbell, Kim Newman, Luigi Gozzi, Graham Humphreys, R. C. Matheson, David J. Schow, Brinke Stevens, Tim Lucas, Mick Garris, Stephen King, Stephen R. Bissette and C. Courtney Joyner. A jubilant celebration of the greatest VHS cover art in all its gory, glory -- which inspired, scared, and delighted generations of movie-goers. For anyone who frequented a video store in the 80s or 90s, the styles are instantly recognizable: surprisingly beautiful paintings of fanged and winged monsters; ridiculously lurid depictions of young men and women in peril; illustrations so incompetently drawn as to qualify as outsider art; absurdly overstuffed photomontages. The home video revolution was accompanied by an explosion of all kinds of cover art, embodying the anything-goes ethos of an era when obscure, cheaply produced movies—usually with supernatural storylines and bottom-drawer special effects—could be distributed throughout the world and watched from the comfort of ones living room. Videotapes from Hell provides a fascinating illustrated history of VHS cover art in all its glory, from direct-to-video oddities to major studio releases. Drawing on the expansive collection of world-renowned horror expert Stephen Jones, it collects nearly 500 pieces of period artwork, accompanied by detailed captions that give the history of the movie and its release dates in video format. In addition to front-cover images and full-sleeve spreads, it includes examples of promotional posters and freestanding original artwork that was incorporated into box designs. Including a foreword from beloved cult director Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Burbs) and commentary from horror luminaries such as Ramsey Campbell, Mick Garris, Stephen King and many more, Videotapes from Hell is a garish and jubilant celebration of a lost genre ripe for rediscovery. Hardcover, 224 pages, full color. Cover price $39.95.

DC Studios Superman The Art and Making of the Film HC (2025 Abrams Books) 1-1ST

1st printing. Text by James Field. James Gunn's Superman marks the triumphant theatrical return of Smallville's favorite son, kicking off a bold new era of DC storytelling under the umbrella of DC Studios. In Superman: The Art and Making of the Film, fans are granted an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Gunn's vision for a Superman that brings the character back to his optimistic, heroic, and brightly colored roots with all the action, adventure, humor, and heart that audiences have experienced in his previous DC entries, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos. Author James Field (The Art of The Batman) documents every stage of the film's production, from Gunn and his DC Studios's co-chairman and co-CEO Peter Safran's earliest conversations about what their vision for Superman would be and what he would represent, to the comics they would turn to for inspiration, to costume and set design, and continuing on to post-production FX. Field conducted interviews with all of the film's key creatives and presents an engaging narrative of the highly collaborative filmmaking process. The book includes an introduction from writer/director/producer James Gunn, a foreword by Superman himself, David Corenswet, and a plethora of concept art and unit photography. Featured are Metropolis—inspired directly by the art of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, the staggeringly beautiful Fortress of Solitude, the Daily Planet offices, and other locations in the film, along with costume and character designs for David Corenswet's Superman, Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi's Mr. Terrific, and, of course, Krypto the Super Dog. Superman: The Art and Making of the Film is the ultimate companion to the first epic big-screen entry in the DC Studios canon. Hardcover, 12-in. x 9-in., 176 pages, full color. Cover price $50.00.
