From 1618 to 1648, the Thirty Years's War swept through Europe, bringing death and destruction throughout most of the northern countries. In 1630, the twelfth year of the war, young Malcolm Graeme joined a Scottish regiment fighting with King Gustavus of Sweden. A battle over who should be regent and rule the country until the king was old enough developed between two parties - one led by Philippe, the Duc d'Orleans, and the other by the Duc de Maine. Although Philippe became regent, the followers of his rival did not remain idle. A young man, Raoul d'Harmental, was committed to kidnap the regent until, by strange action of fate, Raoul's very life depended upon the man he was to have kidnapped. Cover price $0.15.

Mr. Bensington and Professor Redwood invented it between them and in their first enthusiasm called it the Food of the Gods. It was in every way a most remarkable substance, for it was to produce a new race of men. Normal people were frightened to discover wasps as big a barn owls, creeping plants as tall as pine trees and rats as big as horses.
