When the Comics Code Authority cracked down on the comic book industry in 1955, horror comics all but faded from the scene. Enter Creepy magazine, publisher James Warren's tribute (after a fashion) to EC's vaunted horror comics line, which couldn't survive the Code's strong arm censorship tactics. Magazines weren't subject to the same rules, giving Warren the freedom to publish more mature content. Eerie, Vampirella, and other Warren publications followed. Stories in this first issue of Creepy include: Voodoo by Bill Pearson and Joe Orlando; H2O World! by Larry Ivie, Al Williamson, and Roy G. Krenkel; Vampires fly at Dusk! by Archie Goodwin and Reed Crandall; Werewolf! by Larry Ivie and Frank Frazetta; Bewitched! by Larry Ivie and Gray Morrow; The Success Story by Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson; and Pursuit of the Vampire! by Archie Goodwin and Angelo Torres. Features the first appearance of Uncle Creepy. Cover art by Jack Davis. Cover price $0.35.

Cover by Joe Orlando. Stories by Al Feldstein, Jack Oleck, John Larner, and Richard Smith. Art by Jack Kamen, Joe Orlando, Reed Crandall, and Johnny Craig. Part of EC's Picto-Fiction line, published in response to the Comics Code, featuring tales of law and outlaws in text stories copiously illustrated by EC's lineup of artists. A private eye investigating a woman's disappearance finds a vital clue in a mystery novel, but fails to notice the title, "Fall Guy For Murder," adapted from a story that originally appeared in Crime Suspenstories (1950-55 E.C. Comics) #18. In a noirish story, a chance encounter on the street gets Ben involved with the dangerous lives of Myra and her sister. Another historic moment occurs in Mother's Day (adapted from a story that originally appeared in Crime Suspenstories (1950-55 E.C. Comics) #21), when writer Al Feldstein uses the soon-to-be-famous moniker "Alfred E. Neuman." Vivid cover by Joe Orlando definitely would not have passed muster with the new Comics Code. Written by ED BRUBAKER. Art & Wraparound Cover by SEAN PHILLIPS. This fall crime noir smacks you right in the face, as award-winning writer Ed Brubaker, whose recent hits on Daredevil, Captain America and the X-Men have made him one of the top writers in the field, joins best-selling Marvel Zombies artist Sean Phillips for CRIMINAL, a new ongoing series from Icon. Navigating through a world of smoky barrooms and double-crosses to present tales of heists, murders and cons, CRIMINAL is determined to be different than any other book on the shelves today. In our debut issue, we meet Leo, who can plan the perfect heist...but only if he can be convinced the job is safe enough. See, Leo is not a shoot-first think-later guy; Leo is a professional. But to some criminals, even professionals, the right payout is worth almost any risk. So when an old friend and a crooked cop approach with a plan to seize millions of dollars in contraband from an evidence transport van, Leo must make tough choices, knowing there's nothing you can trust less in this world than a cop on the take. And as a bonus, each issue of Criminal will be packed with material, featuring a full length continuing story, as well as back-up stories and articles about the crime genre in all its forms from the pulps to the modern day. 32 PGS./No Ads/Mature Content Cover price $2.99.

"A Flash of the Lightning!" Written by Marv Wolfman. Art by George Perez and Jerry Ordway. Fresh off his set-back of last issue, the nefarious Anti-Monitor is reborn and he's more powerful and more determined than ever to destroy all life in the multiverse. As this sinister villain threatens to destroy all life in the positive universe, the only one left to stop him is the Flash, but at what cost. Don't miss one of the most heroic moments in the history of this medium as the Scarlet Speedster sacrifices all to preserve life in the DCU. Featuring the heroic death of the Flash (Barry Allen). NOTE: This was a character defining moment that can still be felt in the Post-Crisis DCU today. - Odinson, Lone Star Comics Archivist Cover price $0.75.

Cover by Greg Waller. By Garth Ennis & Jacen Burrows. Garth Ennis has pulled out all the stops to write the most twisted book of his career, Crossed! Through ten heart-stopping chapters, Crossed is his horrifically visceral exploration of the pure evil that humans are truly capable of indulging. This gut-wrenching vision is brought to vivid - and more than a little disturbing - life by his partner-in-crime, Jacen Burrows. Imagine, for a moment, the worst crimes against humanity. Picture the cruelest affronts to decency. Conjure your darkest nightmares - and then realize it could all be so much worse. When civilization crumbles in one terrifying moment, when people are gleefully breaking into unthinkable acts of violence all around you, when everyone you love has died screaming in agony - What do you do? There is no help. There is no hope. There is no escape. There are only the Crossed. Certain to be the most depraved and corrupt book of the year, this one is not for the faint of heart! This terrifying first issue is available with a Regular or Wraparound cover by Burrows as well as a rare 1-in-15 Red Crossed Edition featuring a striking Black, White and Red cover by Burrows. Also available as a Signed Poster Edition which features the Wraparound cover to #0 as a poster, signed by the entire creative team of Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows, packed in with a copy of #1 and a Certificate of Authenticity. Cover price $3.99.

"Red" Crossed Order Incentive Cover by Jacen Burrows. Written by David Lapham. Art by Javier Barreno. The Pratt family was torn apart by the sudden strike of the infected masses. The survivors think they have found a safe place to start over. A place the Crossed won't find them and can be well defended. But those are only the external threat as evil lurks in the hearts of some men and those terrors aren't as easy to see as a Crossed rash. Imagine, for a moment, the worst crimes against humanity. Picture the cruelest affronts to decency. Conjure your darkest nightmares... and then realize it could all be so much worse. When civilization crumbles in one terrifying moment; when people are gleefully breaking into unthinkable acts of violence all around you; when everyone you love has died screaming in agony: What do you do? 32 pages, full color.
