The penultimate page to this story about the endless cycle of war sees human soldiers Frank and Jenny reunited in the fog of battle- though Jenny, now disguised as an 'alien' has learned some things about the nature of this war and may no longer be on Frank's side. Fantastic work from Hampton here, especially in the centerpiece 5th panel as Jenny (embellished with some grease pencil!) faces her breaking point. Signed by Hampton in lower margin. Two comics titans team up for this special, non-fiction Classics Illustrated entry which covered the Civil War. This chapter tells a fascinating and lesser known story from November of 1864 in which eight Confederate agents travelled to New York City with bottles of an incendiary fluid called Greek Fire intending to set fires across the city- a plan that failed miserably as none of the fires took with the most severe burning just four rooms of a hotel. Pencil and ink on art board. 14 1/4" x 22 1/2". NOTE: One figure in the first panel is a pasted in stat. As the stat is partially detached, it's evident that the redraw was to change his demeanor from calm to shocked.

Though most heroes are having some trouble in this future-set series, things are looking good for Firestorm! With Ronnie Raymond in the driver's seat, Firestorm heads home from a night at the Playboy mansion and finds that his other (better?) half Jason Rusch isn't very talkative. A big, bold hero shot of Firestorm soaring over the streets of NYC opens this great showcase page for the molecule-manipulating hero. Well, half of Firestorm anyway. Who says a tank can't win a dogfight? The Haunted Tank's mission to rescue a stranded soldier gets a little more interesting after he hijacked a German plane to make his escape. A fun layout on this page as the end of the aerial battle transitions from thin, page-width panels to inset vertical panels that read along with the action on the ground- which includes great images of both the Haunted Tank and General Stuart. A great page from this offbeat book about a family who moves to the titular town of Gross Point, a community full of weirdness and monsters that no one seems to mind very much. In this issue, the Pickett family encounters the classic sci-fi trope of Pod People which they must rescue their neighbors from in this fun page. Broderick does an amazing job of giving Maurkon an imposing figure with his sword literally slicing through the page shaded wonderfully with striking crosshatching. This is a phenomenal page with beautifully drawn and frenetic aerial action punctuated with close shot panels of the squad doing their duty inside of the plane. Easy Company is on the run and under assault from Nazi forces in this story titled "The Stone-Age War" as Rock uses caveman survival tactics to keep the team moving. This fantastic page opens with a haunting panel of Rock describing the danger of the SS squad that's on their heels as they prepare for an assault that's just classic Kubert. A great page that gets to the root of the New 52 iteration of Superboy! A confrontation with Psycho Pirate reveals to Kon-El that his supposed ally Dr. Psycho has been manipulating Kon to his own ends. As an experimental combination of Kryptonian and human DNA created by N.O.W.H.E.R.E., this hits Superboy right in the guy and he takes immediate action against his former 'friend'- but is that just Psycho Pirate's influence? The eye is immediately drawn to the fantastic half splash of Superboy throwing the first punch in this battle, but be sure to take note of Green's incredible inking skills giving and incredible amount of texture and depth to the Psycho Pirate!
