Comic books May 1950

Vintage monthly published magazine with a focus on the film industry as a whole. First published in November of 1930, publication continued through the late 1970s. Priding itself as a source for exclusive behind the scenes stories about filmmaking, Silver Screen also contained a fair amount of articles about celebrities, their relationships, the latest in fashion, and film reviews. The comic adventures of Smiley Burnette, best known as the sidekick to Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and other movie cowboys. Smiley discovers the downside of freedom of the press when offended outlaws decide to smash his printing press, and he must bear arms to defend it. Young Red Eagle is named chieftain of the Canuga, but to prove himself, he must rescue White Cloud's son from a pack of wolves. Smiley stumbles on a lost band of cowboys and is somehow proclaimed their king, complete with crown. Super-Detective, May 1950 issue (Vol. 11, No. 2), was an experimental issue with two eight page black and white comic sections: Ray Hale, New Ace by Keats Petree of Spicy Detective Stories, and "Girl Friday" by Wow Comics artist Ken Battefield. Only a few comic stories were featured in the pulp magazines before the idea was abandoned to lack of reader response. Detective stories by Terry O.K.
