Combat Insignia Stamps of the United States Army and Navy Air Corps, Volume One, 1942. Distributed by the Hearst Corporation in 1942. During World War II animation studios volunteered their services to create mascots and insignias for all branches of the military that wanted one. This volume concentrates on Army and Navy aircraft squadrons including some from World War I. Characters such as Disney's Donald Duck, Lantz's Woody Woodpecker and more well-established characters are well represented along with original creations as requested. This booklet had 50 full color stamps (Number 1-50) that were pasted into the matching text and number block. A short profile of each squadron plus the thinking and design behind the insignia are next to each Stamp. Stamps are in both vertical and horizontal formats and measure a uniform 2-in. x 1 1/2-in. A unique collectible, beautifully produced. 7 1/2-in. x 10 1/4-in., 12 pages, sepia tone.
