Volume 3 - 1st printing. Bill Griffith's Zippy the Pinhead is a pop culture icon. Born in Underground Comix, the surrealist-leaning character is now one of the most recognizable figures on the newspaper pages, seen by tens of millions of people a day. Zippy Annual 2002 collects approximately a year's worth of strips, including full-color Sundays, from 2001 and 2002. This new volume includes several continuing storylines. One follows the high drama when Zippy's own favorite (fictional) comic strip, "Nimrod," is dropped from his daily newspaper, a thinly disguised parody of what happened when one of Zippy's papers tried (and failed) to drop Griffith's strip. Also, Zippy bumps into dead newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst, visits innumerable roadside attractions, and reacts to the events of Sept. 11th, 2001, in a series of emotionally-charged strips. Frivolity is a stern taskmaster, and these brilliantly designed strips have never reproduced better, making Zippy Annual 2002 a perfect showcase for Griffith's inimitably existential and surreal sense of humor, a must-have and perfect gift book for the millions who find Zippy a rare diamond in the rough of today's newspaper comic pages. Softcover, 8 1/2-in. x 11-in., 160 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $19.95.

Written by Dan Jurgens. Art by Andy Kubert, Scott Hanna, Klaus Janson, Wade Von Grawbadger, and Jesse Delperdang. Covert by Andy Kubert.
Thor, god of Thunder, is a god with more than a passing interest in the doings on Midgard (Earth to you and me). His sense of duty and morality forces Thor to merge his life-spirit into the mortal body of paramedic Jake Olson. Thus, he finds himself a god divided, with loyalties to the court of Odin, ruler of the Norse Gods, and as a man with obligations to friends and family.
This powerfully told story follows the attempt by Lord Malekith the Dark Elf to take over Asgard by unleashing the immeasurable power contained within the Cask of Ancient Winters.
With Thor tending to matters on Earth and mighty Odin undergoing the necessary Odinsleep to renew his powers, it falls to Lady Sif to rule and protect the Realm Eternal. Sensing opportunity, Ulik, leader of the Trolls, also decides the time has come to ravage Asgard, so the gods themselves have their hands full.
Guest-starring Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, and the Warrior Three. Avengers cameo.

1st printing. By Denis Kitchen. Following on the heels of The Oddly Compelling Art of Denis Kitchen, an overview of the pioneering underground cartoonist published this summer by Dark Horse Books, Denis Kitchen's Chipboard Sketchbook is comprised of particular kinds of drawings on "chipboard" that Kitchen has done below the radar for many years. Chipboard is the heavy, grainy card stock at the base of writing tablets. The artist started the habit of drawing on this unlikely substance during long, often boring production meetings at Kitchen Sink Press, his former company, when he would flip his notes tablet over and doodle with a combination of the only tools at hand: a Sharpie pen and fine-point Uni-ball pen. With subject matter often extremely bizarre, or, in his own words, even "demented," Kitchen filed these away for many years. They were seen only his close friends and colleagues...until now! Measuring 6.25" x 8.75", this collection features an extra-thick 3mm cover stock (chipboard, of course) with a de-bossed cover image and vertical belly band. The full-color 128-page hardcover was edited and designed by Greg Sadowski and art directed by John Lind, who won a 2009 American Graphic Design Award for their work on Underground Classics (Abrams). Hardcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 128 pages, full color. Mature Readers Cover price $19.95.
