Li'l Abner in the Mystery O' the Cave (1950) is #1 of 6 in the Oxydol/Dreft mini-comic series. The six titles in the series are: 1) Li'l Abner in "The Mystery O' the Cave!"; 2) Daisy Mae in "Ham Sangwidges!"; 3) John Wayne in "Cowboy Trouble Shooter!"; 4) Shmoo in "Washable Jones' Travels!"; Archie in "Mask Me No Questions!"; and 6) Might Mouse in "Mighty Mouse. The complete set was originally available via mail order and could be had for one Oxydol or Dreft box top or two wrappers from Ivory Soap plus 15c (offer expired August 31, 1950). This promotional comic is full color, 32-pages including covers, 6-5/8-in. x 3-14-in., all newsprint, no cover price.

Li'l Abner Joins the Navy (1950) is a Naval recruitment giveaway published by Toby Press. In this comic, Al Capp makes an appearance when a young fellow from Dogpatch named Drawingboard McEasel applies for a job as an artist. McEasel's art is so bad that even a low down varmint like Al Capp won't hire him! This is a wonderful story that blends the real world with the one of Dogpatch. The ultimate concern is the good of the Navy. While the agenda seems to be clear, the comic is still a lot of fun as Abner and the rest interact with the real world. A nice example of the artistry and vision of Al Capp. His dialogue is, as always, priceless.

Li'l Abner Orange Crush Envelope and Tattoos Set (1950). The envelope is 6.75-in. x 3.75-in. with a black and white graphic that covers the entire front and features Li'l Abner, Daisy Mae, Mammie Yokum, and other Dogpatch characters, all promoting Orange Crush. Al Capp's signature appears in the lower right corner. The back flap has a circle with 25¢ written inside. Fitting nicely inside the envelope is a sheet of eight color tattoo transfers of Li'l Abner, Daisy Mae, a Schmoo mailman, Pappy Yokum, Moonbeam, Lena the Hyena, Sadie Hawkins, Moonbeam McSwine, and Big Barnsmell.
