Cover by Arthur Suydam. Nearly fifty years ago, Edgar Rice Burroughs' final Tarzan manuscript was locked in a vault, unfinished, never to be read by anyone outside the family. It became the stuff of legend. Now, half a century later, Dark Horse Comics is proud to present Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan: The Lost Adventure. In this never-before-printed novel (serialized over four issues), Tarzan guides an explorer and his beautiful daughter to a remote, mythical African city, and contends with an outlaw safari which hopes to reach the same destination... first. Tarzan's battles with jungle beasts and a brutal sequence in a tribal village are vintage Burroughs at his best! We're presenting this long-lost masterpiece in the same format in which the very first Tarzan story saw print: As a pulp! This four-issue series interweaves the text, as faithfully revised and completed by Joe R. Lansdale, with detailed black-and-white illustrations. Thomas Yeates has provided the artwork for this first issue, while Charles Vess, Gary Gianni, and Michael W. Kaluta are respectively slated to illustrate issues 2-4, each to be housed under a gorgeous painted cover by Arthur Suydam. B&W. Cover price $2.95.

Story and art by Thomas Yeates. Though born in London, he is not a Briton. Although his skin is white, the white man is not his brother. His home is the African jungle and his people are the natives that live there. Christened John Clayton, he has forsaken that name in favor of another, one that is spoken with honor and respect by the Waziri tribe, and with hatred by those who would enslave them. He is Tarzan and he has returned to his beloved jungle. He has returned to his home. Thomas Yeates adapts Edgar Rice Burroughs' Return of Tarzan to comics! 32 pages, FC. Cover price $2.95.

Tarzan saves Tantor the elephant from the pit trap the Mbonga tribe built. But when Tarzan falls in the pit himself, Tantor must take action, in a story with art by comics legend Sam Glanzman. In a tale of Tarzan's early life, he battles Sheeta the panther to earn his place in the ape tribe. Plus guides to the animals of Tarzan's jungle (including dinosaurs!) and his life in the jungle. We don't yet have reviews for Tarzan and the Cannibal King, but Saunders' previous book, The Martian Legion: In Quest of Xonthron, received high praise from Burroughs fans, including Richard Lupoff and Harlan Ellison. You can expect the same high quality and high adventure in Jake's newest novel, Tarzan and the Cannibal King!
This from Richard Lupoff (full review at TheMartianLegion.com): "I've never seen or read anything like this astonishing book. And after coming to terms with the magnificent production, there is Jake Saunders' prodigious novel. Like everything else in this book, it's larger than life. Vast stretches of glorious adventure and dazzling imagery."
And these words from Harlan Ellsion (full review at TheMartianLegion.com): "I could go on expounding what a joy, what a pleasure holding and reading this book would be for all of you, but I'll end this review by again expressing my breathless admiration for Jake Saunders' masterful accomplishment."
"Jake, It was the reading of Tarzan and the Cannibal king that gave me a platform to move to your Martian Legion book. Tarzan and the Cannibal King is so skillfully written that I cannot think of another author beyond ERB that could have bettered your vision of Tarzan as a youth. The quality of your work is obvious. I read as much as possible concerning ERBs works while still touching base with old favorites. In your writing, youve created a sturdy bridge between the old and the new. Like yourself, I am a dyed-in-the-wool Burroughs fan. It is a lifelong allegiance once you are smitten. – John E."

1st printing. By Scott Tracy Griffin. Tarzan on Film is the result of two decades of exhaustive research on the 98-year ape man cinema canon, one of the greatest and most enduring series in motion-picture history. The 1918 release of the silent-film blockbuster Tarzan of the Apes launched one of history's longest-running and most successful film franchises. Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' pulp-fiction hero, the tale of the infant orphaned in Africa and raised to manhood by apes has been explored in more than 50 films and seven television series. Writer and historian Scott Tracy Griffin traces the series' development, from the motion-picture industry's early silents and serials, through the high point of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer era featuring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan, to modern worldwide hits like Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, and Walt Disney Studios' animated Tarzan. Hardcover, 10-in., x 13-in., 224 pages, full color. Cover price $39.95.
