No number, not dated (c. early 50's). The cover is reprinted from Western Killers #63 (March 1949) with some alterations, such as the removal of the Fox logo. However, the interior pages are from Range Riders #1 (1950). For unknown reasons, it seems apparent that this cover was reprinted expressly for the purpose of binding it to unsold copies of Range Rider #1. The practice of binding new covers to unsold copies for resale is not unheard of from this time period. NOTE: First story page is missing. Normally, it would have been printed on the inside front cover of Range Rider's #1, but the new Western Killers cover replaces it with a chewing gum ad.
"Showdown at Rancho Nuevo" (9 pages, originally 10), "Knots" illustrated filler on tying knots, "Baggataway" text story (2 pg), "Cactus Nell's Dangerous Gamble", Range Busters in "Vanishing Gold", and "The Saga of John Wesley Hardin". 36 pages, FC. Newsstand Edition. Story by Peter Gillis. Art by Tom Sutton and Bruce Patterson. Cover by Gene Colan and Pablo Marcus. "What If Dr. Strange Had Been a Disciple of Dormammu?" Uatu the Watcher reminds the reader that events can always take a different path: that a distinction as apparently obvious as good and evil may be very slight indeed; Doctor Strange, as established in the main universe, was an arrogant surgeon who cared more for his patients' money than their health; When his ability to operate was robbed from him due to injuries in a car accident, he sought out the Ancient One, who refused to hand him the easy cure he was hoping for; Instead, he let Strange stay at the retreat and witness Baron Mordo's treachery, thus realizing that greater forces were in the world than his own selfish ambitions, and setting his foot on the path that would lead him to becoming Master of the Mystic Arts. "What If...Spider-Man's Clone had Survived?" Script by Bill Flanagan. Art by Rich Buckler (breakdowns), Jim Mooney (finishes), and Pablo Marcos (finishes). Cover by Bob Layton. In the classic Amazing Spider-Man 149, the Spider-Clone perished in battle vs. the Jackal. But now the Watcher presents an alternate reality in which Spider-Man's clone survives the harrowing encounter at Shea Stadium that fateful afternoon. After the explosion that killed the Jackal, the Spider-Clone frees Ned Leeds, scoops up the other web-slinger, and asks the Gwen Stacy clone to call the police! The Spider-Clone takes the real Spider-Man back to Professor Warren's laboratory for safekeeping! In the days ahead, the clone attempts to resume Peter Parker's normal life, but his awkward encounters with Joe Robertson, Betty Brant, and Glory Grant make him realize that something is terribly wrong! Once the clone comes to grips with his true self, he frees the genuine wall-crawler! And together Spider-Man and the Spider-Clone fight and defeat the Kingpin! It looks like the start of a beautiful friendship! Flashback cameos by Gwen Stacy and the Green Goblin. Backup story: "Moving Day!" Script by Peter Gillis. Art by Ron Wilson (breakdowns) and Joe Sinnott (finishes). In this untold tale of the Marvel Universe, the Inhumans pack up and move the Great Refuge to the Himalayan Mountains! Appearances by Black Bolt, Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Crystal, and the Eternals. (Notes: The original clone saga took place in Amazing Spider-Man 141-151. Many years later this What If story became reality in the mainstream Marvel Universe via the controversial second clone saga that ran through the Spider-Man titles from 1994 to 1996. Both stories were reprinted in 2008 in the trade paperback: What If? Classic 5.) 52 pages. Cover price $0.75.
