This issue includes the fiction story Refiner's Fire, which was the first fiction set on the Federation-Romulan-Gorn border. In the story, two Romulan starships (with a Klingon D7) attempt to ambush and destroy a Gorn battlecruiser, which runs for the Federation border and asks for help.
