New Vanguard SC (1993 Osprey Military) 40-1ST

Volume 40 - 1st printing. "American Civil War Artillery 1861–65 Part 2!" Written by Philip Katcher. Art by Tony Bryan. Because of the length of the coastline of the United States, from the beginning American ordnance and engineers placed an emphasis on heavy artillery mounted in coastal defences. The Union army organised its 'Heavy Artillery' into separate regiments, uniformed and equipped differently. While the Field Artillery was assigned across the fighting fronts Heavy Artillery units served the big guns in the forts and the defences of Washington. The Confederates did not differentiate types of artillery and those that became known as Heavy Artillery did so through informal association rather than formal designation. This book details the development and usage of the big guns. Softcover, 48 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $17.95.

Osprey Aircraft of the Aces SC (1994) 36-1ST

Volume 36 - 1st printing. "P-39 Airacobra Aces of World War 2!" Written by John Stanaway. Art by Jim Laurier. The first American fighter fitted with a tricyle undercarriage and mid-mounted engine, the P-39 proved less than successful in the hands of its launch customer, the US Army Air Force (AAF). Hampered by unreliabilty and poor engine performance at high altitude, the P-39 nevertheless served alongside the P-40 and P-38 in the bitter struggle to capture Guadalcanal in 1942/43, as well as seeing much action over the jungles of New Guinea. Around a dozen AAF aces scored five kills with the P-39, although this total was far outstripped by the Soviet Red Air Force, whose pilots rated the Airacobra as one of the best lend-lease fighters of the war. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Osprey Essential Histories SC (2001) 5-1ST

Volume 5 - 1st printing. "The American Civil War Part 3!" By Robert Krick. Great battles and famous commanders dominated the military history of the Civil War in the Eastern Theater during the period 1863-1865. This book includes revealing details of the clash at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the costliest battle ever waged in the Western Hemisphere, but, contrary to common belief, puts forward the theory that it was not a great turning point in the war. This book also examines the events that led to Robert E Lee accepting generous terms of surrender from Ulysses S Grant, bringing the war in Virginia to a close. A fascinating look at this crucial point in the American Civil War. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $14.95.

    Osprey Men-at-Arms Series SC (1973-2011 OSPREY) 357-1ST

Volume 357 - 1st printing. "World War II Allied Women's Services!" Written by Martin Brayley. Art by Ramiro Bujeiro. The contribution of women to the Allied war effort in 1939-45 was massive. Apart from their many vital roles 'on the home front', about a million Soviet, 500,000 British and 200,000 American women, and tens of thousands from other Allied nations, served in uniform with the armed forces. To put these figures in perspective: enough American women served to free sufficient able-bodied men to form 15 infantry divisions. It was not only in the USSR that their duties took them into harm's way; hundreds of British Commonwealth and US servicewomen died, and many were decorated. This book gives a concise introduction to the organisation and uniforms of these services, with an emphasis on the British and US forces. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

In recognition of the upcoming 60th anniversary of the event (and based on newly discovered and declassified information), Pearl Harbor: The Comic Book will present the most accurate account of the events of December 7, 1941 to date, adding lesser-known stories and events which lead to the even greater disaster of the "Second Pearl Harbor" against the U.S. Forces in the Philippines just a day later. Written and drawn by Luftwaffe/World War II/Kamikaze: 1946 artist Ted Nomura, the graphic novel will be augmented by the coloring magic of Antarctic Press' own Guru EFX digital graphics team! Part 2 covers the tragedy that followed the attack. No fictional characters will be used in this special true-to-history edition, because truth is indeed stranger than fiction! FC, 32pg (2 of 2) Cover price $3.95.

1st printing. Based on the screenplay by William Broyles, Jr., Lawrence Konner and Mark D. Rosenthal. Adapted by SCOTT ALLIE. Art by DAVID FABBRI. In the year 2029, astronaut/pilot Leo Davidson is in for an adventure — and a nightmare — unlike anything else. While conducting vital research in space on apes enhanced with human DNA, the crew of the starship Oberon investigates a strange anomaly. Pericles — one of the genetically enhanced chimps trained as a pilot by Leo — is given the task of investigating the odd occurrence in a prototype space pod. When Pericles disappears, Leo disregards all orders and heads out to find his friend. Once caught in the grip of the anomaly, Leo is pulled into a time and place that he could never imagine...the PLANET OF THE APES! What he experiences there is almost beyond his belief: a world where gorillas and chimps are the dominant species... a world where humans struggle to survive in the wild beneath the heel of ape rule. With the help of a sympathetic chimpanzee activist named Ari, Leo leads the effort to evade the advancing gorilla army led by the sinister Thade. And maybe, just maybe, Leo will make it back home...if he survives the war he's started. Softcover, 56 pages, full color. Cover price $6.95.
