    Milkman Murders (2004) 1

JOE CASEY (W) and STEVE PARKHOUSE (A) On sale July 7, FC, 32pg, $2.99 FOR MATURE READERS The most horrific of all Dark Horse's new brand of horror comics comes from the mind of Joe Casey?mainstream superstar (Superman, X-Men, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes) and visionary, alternative voice (WildC.A.T.S. Version 3.0, Automatic Kafka)? and Steve Parkhouse, who exposed the absurd side of British suburban life in his collaboration with Alan Moore on The Bojeffries Saga, and later took on global madness in Grant Morrison's The Invisibles. Now the two turn their attention to the depraved American suburb, where a forlorn housewife faces facts about the American Dream. The unraveling of her hopes leads to unprecedented terror, heralded by a demonic vision from some twisted parody of a Norman Rockwell image as painted by serial-killing folk-artist John Wayne Gacy? The Milkman. Cover price $2.99.

  • Issue #62-1ST
Osprey Aircraft of the Aces SC (1994) 62-1ST

Volume 62 - 1st printing. "Sopwith Triplane Aces of World War 1!" Written by Norman Franks. Art by Harry Dempsey. The inspiration behind the iconic Fokker Dr I, Sopwith's Triplane was built as a replacement for the company's hugely successful, and much loved, Pup. Thanks to its massive wing area, the revolutionary Triplane boasted an unmatched rate of climb and greatly improved manoeuvrability. Indeed, when the type made its combat debut in late 1916, the Triplane could easily out-fight any other aircraft operated by either side. Used exclusively by the Royal Naval Air Service and the French Navy, theTriplane had a far greater impact on the aerial war over the Western Front than its meagre production numbers really deserved. Pilots such as Ray Collishaw, Bob Little and Roderic Dallas all enjoyed success in the bloody struggle for aerial supremacy over the Western Front in 1917. The first volume in print devoted exclusively to Triplane aces, this book includes numerous first-hand accounts, detailed appendices, more than 90 rare photographs and over 40 all-new colour profiles and planforms. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Osprey Aircraft of the Aces SC (1994) 63-1ST

Volume 63 - 1st printing. "Fokker D VII Aces of World War 1!" Written by Greg VanWyngarden and Norman Franks. Art by Harry Dempsey. Volume 53 in this series covered Fokker D VII aces from the four elite Jagdgeschwadern of the German army, and this follow-on volume charts the story of the many aces who flew the famed fighter in other units committed to combat in the final months of World War 1. D VII operations covered the entire Western Front, from the North Sea to the Swiss border. In the latter half of 1918 the Fokker was not only the mainstay of the army Jagdstaffeln, but also the most potent fighter flown by home defence Kests and the pilots of the German navy in Flanders. The D VII easily proved the equal of the many British, French, Belgian and American aircraft it met in combat, and served in such roles as day bomber interceptor, 'balloon buster' and nightfighter. Though handicapped by a lack of fuel and other supplies as the German war machine fell apart, aces such as Sachsenberg, Degelow and Rumey utilised the D VII to rack up impressive scores against consistently superior odds. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Volume 5 - 1st printing. "US Army in the Plains Indian Wars 1865-1891!" By Clayton Chun. The Plains Indian War was one of the most controversial conflicts in American military history, as the US Army faced a tough opponent that challenged it for decades following the end of the Civil War. The Army leadership endured a severe lack of resources, political constraints, an indifferent public, tough environmental conditions, and other problems of the frontier. Army officers and men had to adapt to these constraints, and this period also proved to be a trial of the ability and endurance of the common soldier. This title details the organization, development, training, tactics and command structures of the US Army during its subjugation of the Plains Indian tribes. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $25.95.

Volume 138 - 1st printing. "Poitiers 1356!" Written by David Nicolle. Art by Graham Turner. When Edward the Black Prince marched out of Gascony in August 1356, his plan was to carry out a large-scale destructive raid into the territory of the French King, John II. On 18 September, however, he was cornered south of Poitiers by a larger French army, and was left with little option but to fight. The ensuing battle proved an unmitigated disaster for the French. Their army was butchered and the King himself captured. In this volume, Dr David Nicolle details a campaign that enhanced the reputation of the Black Prince and led King John to catastrophe. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $19.95.

Volume 139 - 1st printing. "Guam 1941 & 1944!" Written by Gordon L Rottman. Art by Howard Gerrard. The island of Guam was the first Allied territory lost to the Japanese onslaught in 1941. On 10 December 5,000 Japanese troops landed on Guam, defended by less than 500 US and Guamanian troops, the outcome was beyond doubt. On 21 July 1944 America returned. In a risky operation, the two US landing forces came ashore seven miles apart and it was a week before the beachheads linked up. Only the battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa would cost the Americans more men than the landings on Guam and Saipan, which immediately preceded the Guam operation. In this book Gordon Rottman details the bitter 26-day struggle for this key Pacific island. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $19.95.

Volume 142 - 1st printing. "Dunbar 1650!" Written by Stuart Reid. Art by Graham Turner. Having already allied with his father, the Scots' acceptance of Charles II as king in 1649 caused deep suspicion in England. In July 1650, Oliver Cromwell led a powerful force across the Scottish border to remove the problem. For six weeks Cromwell waged a frustrating campaign against a Scots enemy that refused to meet him in battle. By the beginning of September Cromwell's army, poorly supplied, exhausted and ravaged by sickness, was apparently trapped at Dunbar by a powerful Scots army. On 3 September he won his greatest military victory just outside the town, but in this book Stuart Reid suggests that his triumph may in fact have begun as a breakout attempt. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $19.95.

Volume 107 - 1st printing. "Buffalo Soldiers 1866-91!" Written by Ron Field. Art by Richard Hook. African-American soldiers played a decisive role in the US Army on the western frontier during the Plains Wars. First authorised by Congress in July 1866, they were organised into two cavalry and four infantry regiments, which were commanded by white officers. All were quickly nicknamed the 'Buffalo Soldiers' by their Cheyenne and Comanche enemies. These brave soldiers fought many native tribes over the years, including the warriors of Sitting Bull and Geronimo. This book tells the story of these buffalo soldiers who, until the early 1890s, constituted 20 per cent of all active forces on duty in the American West. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.
