1st printing. Art and cover by Syd Hoff. If you were reading The Daily Worker in the 1930s, you'd have come across the words of Woody Guthrie and Richard Wright, along with the cartoons of the mysterious A. Redfield. Redfield was actually New Yorker cartoonist and future Danny and the Dinosaur author Syd Hoff. Scorning what he saw as the complicity and stale yucks of cartooning peers like Peter Arno, Hoff set his sights on the rich and powerful and revealed them for what they were: hilariously inept, deeply selfish, and incredibly dangerous. Hoff spared nothing from his pen, lampooning police brutality, thin-skinned industrialists, racists, and the looming threat of fascism at home and abroad. Softcover, 6-in. x 8-in., 184 pages, B&W. Volume 1 - 1st printing. Written by VA Lewis. Art and cover by KP Comics Studios. The Netherworld: it is a hellish landscape inhabited only by Demons, creatures born from the dark abyss. It is also the only world Salvos knows. Joining the ranks of newborn demons, Salvos is thrown into the violent, anarchy-ruled landscape of that world. To survive, she will have to learn, she will have to adapt, and she will have to evolve. She will gain experience to reach new Levels of power. Her curiosity aids her but her pride could be her fall. It is the nature of the Netherworld to avoid or conquer any threats faced— after all, the law of evolution is survival of the fittest, and Salvos is a survivor. And perhaps, eventually, she will leave this world behind for a better place. But… is that what Salvos even wants? This novel is an action-packed fantasy following the adventures of a Demon girl! It is set inside a game-like world with Classes, Levels, and even monster evolution, but it is not inside the world of a video game. For the characters in the novel, the world is as real as the real world is to me and you. Softcover, 5 1/2-in.x 8 1/2-in., 256 pages, Text (with B&W Chapter Illustrations). Teen+ Cover price $14.99.

1st printing. By Mort Walker and Jerry Dumas. A SHORT-LIVED '60s COMIC STRIP STARRING THE YELLOW KID, JIGGS AND CHARLIE BROWN!? Sam's Strip was ahead of its time when it debuted in 1961. Mort Walker and Jerry Dumas' offbeat creation took the inside joke of breaking the "fourth wall" to a new level, playing with the basic elements of the cartoon form, experimenting with different art styles and featuring famous characters from other strips. Sam and his cartoonist assistant owned and operated the comic strip they inhabited. The Yellow Kid, Jiggs, Krazy Kat, Dagwood, and Charlie Brown were among the many familiar faces who made walk-on appearances. Sam and his assistant discussed the inner workings and hidden secrets of life within the panel borders. This type of self-referential humor, called "metacomics" by scholar Thomas Inge, had been explored previously by Al Capp, Ernie Bushmiller, and Walt Kelly and has been used on a more regular basis by such contemporary cartoonists as Garry Trudeau, Berke Breathed, and Bill Griffith. Sam's Strip, which never appeared in more than 60 newpapers, was too esoteric for most readers, and was terminated by its creators in 1963. It is considered a cult classic among comic-strip aficionados today. This collections features the complete 20-month run, almost 510 daily strips, of Sam's Strip. Mort Walker and Jerry Dumas provide first-hand accounts of the creation of the strip and other rare, behind-the-scenes material, including unpublished sketches, original artwork, photographs and sales brochures. Take a trip beyond the fourth wall and rediscover this unique behind-the-scenes look at the world of comic strip humor. Softcover (Horizontal Format), 10-in. x 8 1/2-in., 192 pages, B&W. Cover price $22.99.
