Fifty years (and five billion dollars in ticket sales) ago, the dashing Scottish actor Sean Connery declared suavely that he was "Bond, James Bond." Thus began a cinematic series unlike any other. LIFE was on the scene in the swinging '60s when James Bond became a cultural icon, and now LIFE tells the whole story in this commemorative book.
Ian Fleming, a high-ranking officer in British Naval Intelligence during World War II, dreamt up his MI6 spy, code number 007, in 1953, and a decade later, with Dr. No, saw his creation take on a life entirely his own.
All the fun of Bond is here: the movies; the reminiscences by the stars; the LIFE photo shoots; the knock-offs and spoofs; the artifacts; the trivia; and more!

1st printing. I can express something [with animals] that is different from what I put into my work about humans... I can put more nonsense, more satire and fantasy into the animals... — R. Crumb Created by an adolescent R. Crumb in the late 1950s, Fritz the Cat rose to fame — along with his creator — during the underground comix revolution of the 1960s, and remains Crumbs most well-known character and an internationally recognized icon of 1960s culture. Fritz is a feline, freewheeling chiseler who allowed Crumb to express some of his most acidic commentary on American culture. Tragicomedy, farce and satire all rolled into one, The Life and Death of Fritz the Cat chronicles the very best of Fritz's adventures from his early days as an idealistic college student to his ultimate fate as a jaded, burned-out superstar, including Crumbs infamous send-off of the character in the wake of Ralph Bakshis animated feature film, an experience and project that completely dissatisfied Crumb. Finally collected in a single volume, these Fritz stories are a funny, insightful, authentic record of a tumultuous period in American life, with humor and compassion by the most well-respected cartoonist of all time. Hardcover, 8 1/2-in. x 11-in., 96 pages, B&W. Mature Readers Cover price $19.99.

1st printing. By Peter Benjaminson. The first biography of a major American cultural symbol ever written, The Life and Times of Betty Boop describes Betty Boop's incredibly active romantic and family life as revealed in her numerous comic strips, comic books, cartoons, and movies since 1930. Award-winning author Peter Benjaminson details the creation of Betty Boop, based on two African American female entertainers who were the human models for Betty's character. He explores the many alterations of Betty's appearance, attitudes, and behavior over the years. The Life and Times of Betty Boop indulges in the controversies surrounding the character, including her adventures with Felix the Cat (a four-year daily comic strip production). Set in a dystopian future where music has been outlawed, LIFE HOUSE follows a small band of rebels who stage an underground concert in an effort to undermine a tyrannical leader...and free Britain and all of humanity. This graphic novelization is co-written by Doom Patrol's JAMES HARVEY and Spider-Man Noir's DAVID HINE, with art by both HARVEY and Australian visual artist MAX PRENTIS, lettering by MICHAH MYERS, and inks by Eisner Award-winning artist MICK GRAY. It is edited by the former editor-in-chief of Bleeding Cool, HANNAH MEANS-SHANNON, and features a massive vinyl LP format (12.25 x 12.25). This is a must-have for any serious music collectors, rock fans, and pop culture aficionados! Originally envisioned as a sci-fi rock epic to follow up The Who's chart-topping song, "Tommy," and put aside 50 years ago-in favor of Who's Next songs like "Baba O'Riley," "Won't Get Fooled Again," and "Behind Blue Eyes"-LIFE HOUSE** will finally take center stage. Hardcover (with Slipcase), 12-in. x 12-in., 172 pages, full color. Cover price $74.99.
