Volume 4 - 1st printing. Collects Haunt of Fear (1950-1954 E.C. Comics) #16-20. Cover by Graham Ingels. Stories by Ray Bradbury, Bill Gaines, and Al Feldstein. Art by Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, Graham Ingels, George Evans, Jack Kamen, and Al Feldstein, with colors by Marie Severin. Reprints of the classic EC horror tales that outraged comics nay-sayers of the 1950s and changed both horror and comics history. A man accidentally takes a self-burying coffin on a test ride, based on a Ray Bradbury story. In another Bradbury story, a mysterious time-traveling Ferris wheel becomes the vehicle for both crime and comeuppance. This issue also features the murderous baseball tale "Foul Play," a famous story cited in the anti-comics classic Seduction of the Innocent, Stephen King's Danse Macabre, and elsewhere. And much more stomach-churning horror in the inimitable EC style. Nobody There!; A Creep in the Deep!; From Hunger!; The Coffin!; Horror We? Hows Bayou?; Gorilla My Dreams!; A Likely Story!; Garden Party!; Hiding Place; Pipe Down; Bedtime Gory!; Pot-Shot!; The Black Ferris!; Sucker Bait!; Lover, Come Hack to Me!; Double-Header!; Foul Play!; Thump Fun!; Terror Train; Bloody Sure; Hyde and Go Shriek. "Sappo in Haunted" - This item is an 8-Pager, commonly known as a Tijuana Bible; most were published ca. 1920s-1940s. The artists, writers, and publishers of these booklets are generally unknown. Most 8-Pagers are humorous takes on newspaper comic strip characters, movie stars, and political figures of the time, usually in sexually explicit situations, and invariably produced without permission or respect for copyright. These are timeless pieces of American comic sub-culture and are often considered the precursor to the underground comics created by the likes of Robert Crumb and Gilbert Shelton. Due to the circumstances in which these items were originally created, it is virtually impossible to determine edition and printing, although modern era reprints are usually easily identifiable. We will note these differences to the best of our ability. Not available for international sale. You must be 18 or older to order this item. Stapled pages, 3 1/2-in. x 2 1/2-in., 8 pages, single ink color.
