Story and art by Adrian Norvid.
The town of Fake Lake is a sludge pit of goings on and the Fake Lake Bottom Feeder (the local paper) has been kept busy chronicling what amounts to a mild apocalypse: collapsing bridges, a gap in the street that swallows the high school band, an awful bacterial business at the hot springs and a great blowout at the Fakeola bottling plant. Fake Lake is a replica of a weekly edition of the paper, complete with Children's Section (try not to freak out Trippy the clown), Industrial News (it's work injury week, again), a fulsome Food Section (beware the Flakey Bakery's Sticky Buns) and a special double page spread of the Dregs Coffee Shop's Sponsored Expedition to Ascend Old Frothy (their espresso machine) with exclusive photos of bearded hipster explorer types hip deep in milk foam.

Story and art by Michael Deforge.
The bodies of citizens and the infrastructure surrounding them is constantly updating. People wake up in apartments of completely different sizes and shapes and commuter routes radically differ day to day. There is no way to resist-the updates are enacted by a nameless, faceless force. The signatures of DeForge's work-a vibrant color palette, surreal designs, and self-aware sense of humor - enliven an often-bleak technocratic future.
Familiar Face is a masterful and deeply funny exploration of how we define our sense of self, and how we cope when so much of life is out of our control.

1st printing. Story and art by Peter Bagge. Peter Bagge's biography of Zora Neale Hurston is bold and dazzling-a story as brilliant as the life itself. Hurston challenged the norms of what was expected of an African American woman in early 20th century society. She arrived in NYC at the height of the Harlem Renaissance, surrounded by peers such as Langston Hughes and Wallace Thurman. Hurston went on to become a noted folklorist and critically acclaimed novelist, including her most provocative work Their Eyes Were Watching God. With admiration and respect, Bagge reconstructs her vivid life in resounding full-colour. Hardcover, 7-in. x 9-in., 104 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $21.95.

1st printing. Story and art by Michael DeForge. First Year Healthy purports to be the story of a young woman, recently released from the hospital after an outburst, and her burgeoning relationship with an odd, perhaps criminal Turkish immigrant. In a scant 48 pages, working with a vibrant, otherworldly palette of magentas, yellows, and grays, Michael DeForge brings to life a world whose shifting realities are as treacherous as the thin ice its narrator walks on. First Year Healthy is all it appears to be and more: a parable about mental illness, a folk tale about magical cats, and a bizarre, compelling story about relationships. Michael DeForge's effortless storytelling and eye for striking page design make each page of First Year Healthy a fascinating puzzle to be unraveled. Hardcover, 6-in.x 9-in., 48 pages, full color. Cover price $14.95.

Story and art by Nick Maandag.
This debut collection showcases Nick Maandag's signature blend of deadpan satire and exceedingly unexpected plot twists.
In "Night School," a class goes awry when a fire alarm brings the Chief to school and he decides to stick around to teach the students a thing or two about leadership-and discipline. "The Disciple," is a yarn about a co-ed Buddhist monastery, where Brother Bananas, the resident gorilla, isn't the only one having difficulty keeping his lust tucked safely under his robe.
In Maandag's hands-hands that love to toy with morally ambiguous characters and flirt with absurdity-troubled men make poor decisions, unlikable characters gain our sympathies through their very haplessness, and laughs ensue, riotously.

1st printing. Story and art by Ed Steed. One swing trapeze artist prepares to receive a newborn child from another all the while shrieking "Support the head!" A hopeful, naked Adam reaches high for the largest leaf while a frustrated Eve hands him a smaller, more-appropriately sized leaf. A dejected squid stands in a doorway, shock and dismay on his face, as a ruined surprise party lies in wait before him-guests, presents, and birthday cake covered in a blast of ink in mid-"Sur..." as loose balloons butt against the ceiling. Once in generation, a distinctly new perspective emerges from the pages of The New Yorker. In our times, that perspective belongs to Ed Steed. Steeped in the classic formalist tradition of the single-panel gag, Steed possesses a shocking and macabre talent for drawings guaranteed to make even the most composed of casual readers laugh out loud. At times reminiscent of Charles Addams, George Booth, William Steig, Saul Steinberg, and Edward Gorey, the artist defies the blasé, urbanite's worldview of the magazine in which his comics appear. Hardcover, 9-in. x 6 1/2-in., 184 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $24.95.

1st printing. Translated by Elverum and Aleshia Jensen.
From rarely- or never-seen illustrations and comics, to album covers and photographs, to studio scraps, Geneviève Castrée: Complete Works 1981-2016 is a breathtaking collection of Castrée's work and soul.
Those familiar with Castrée's seminal memoir about her childhood, Susceptible (included fully within), will know that she, to a large degree, raised herself. It was in those unattended, semi-feral childhood years that Geneviève used art to pull herself out of what could have otherwise been a bleak existence. Instead, she found beauty and depth around her and blended it gorgeously with the harsh, devastating realities of this world.
With an introduction from Castrée's widower Phil Elverum.

Story and art By Seth.
How to encapsulate a life, in all its messiness, epiphanies, misunderstandings, disappointments, and joys?
With George Sprott 1894-1975, Seth offers one tragicomic answer. Page by page, we learn about George - outmoded television host, creature of habit, charming if pompous old man, selfish lover, man about to die-and though this is ultimately the story of one man's death, Seth leavens it with humor and restraint.

Story and art By Seth.
Celebrated cartoonist and New Yorker cover artist Seth gives us the fictional life of George Sprott.
On the surface George seems a charming, foolish, old man, but who is he? And who was he? Told as a patchwork tale, we come to know George, piece by piece, in a series of "interviews," flashbacks, and personal reminiscences. George Sprott is a story about time, identity, loss, and the persistence of memory.
Though, ultimately, this is the story of a man's death, Seth leavens it with humor and restraint. Originally serialized in The New York Times Magazine, this greatly expanded and remastered-version is George Sprott's first publication as a complete work.

Story and art by Shigeru Mizuki.
Meet one of Japan's most popular characters of all time - the one-eyed monster boy Kitaro. He's just like any other boy, except for a few small differences: he only has one eye, his hair is as an antenna that senses paranormal activity, his geta sandals are jet-powered, and he can blend in to his surroundings like a chameleon. Oh, and he's a three hundred and fifty year old yokai (spirit monster). With all the offbeat humor of an Addams Family story, Kitaro is a light-hearted romp where the bad guys always get what's coming to them. Kitaro is bestselling manga-ka Shigeru Mizuki's most famous creation.
The Kitaro series was inspired by a kamishibai or paper theatre entitled Kitaro of the Graveyard. Mizuki's series was created in 1959, and first appeared in Shonen comics magazine for boys, but quickly became a cultural landmark for young and old alike. Kitaro inspired half a dozen TV shows, plus numerous video games and films, and its cultural importance cannot be overstated. Presented to North American audiences for the first time in this lavish format, Mizuki's photo-realist landscapes and cartoony characters blend the eerie with the comic!

Story and art by Shigeru Mizuki. Introduction by Zack Davisson.
Kitaro seems just like any other boy. Of course, he isn't-what with his one eye and jet-powered geta sandals, and the fact that he can shape-shift like a chameleon. It's all a part of being a 350-year-old yokai, a Japanese spirit monster.
Against a backdrop of photorealistic landscapes, Kitaro and his otherworldly cartoon friends plunge into the depths of the Pacific Ocean and forge the oft-unseen wilds of Japan's countryside.
The twelve stories in this special collection include more works published in the golden age of GeGeGe no Kitaro between 1967 and 1969.
Softcover, 6 1/2-in. x 9-in., 432 pages, B&W.

Richard is a benevolent but tough leader who oversees everything that happens in the valley. When Lyle the Raccoon becomes sick, his ragtag group of friends take matters into their own hands, breaking Richard's strict rules. Caroline Frog rats them out to Richard and they are immediately exiled from the only world they've ever known. DeForge's tale expands from a bizarre hero's quest into something more: they make it out of the valley and into the big city, and we see them coming to terms with different kinds of community: noise-rockers, gentrification protesters, squatters, and more.

Story and art by Aline Kominsky Crumb.
Aline Kominsky-Crumb immediately made her mark in the Bay Area's underground comix scene with unabashedly raw, dirty, unfiltered comics chronicling the thoughts and desires of a woman coming of age in the 60's. Kominsky-Crumb traces her steps from a Beatles loving fangirl, East Village groupie, an adult grappling with her childhood, an 80s housewife and mother, to a new 30-page story Dream House that looks back on her childhood, 40 years later. Collecting comics from the 1970s through today, Love That Bunch is shockingly prescient while still being an authentic story of its era.

1st printing. Story and art by Brecht Evens. Pieterjan is invited to a small town as an honored guest. From the moment he arrives, things start going wrong, and since no one seems ready to step in, Pieterjan takes over the show. He decides to build a giant garden gnome as a symbol of Flemish identity, but the construction process brings buried tensions to the surface as the other artists become jealous of Pieterjan's authority. In The Making Of, Evens delves deep into the petty tensions, small misunderstandings, and deadpan humor that pervade modern relationships. Sweeping watercolors jump off the page, surrealist scenery intermingles with crowds of people, and small suburban plot homes have never looked so lovely. Story and art by John Porcellino.
Map Of My Heart celebrates the twentieth anniversary of John Porcellino's seminal and influential comics zine, King Cat Comics. Known for his sad, quiet honesty rendered in his signature deceptively minimalist style, Porcellino has a command of graphic storytelling as sophisticated as the medium's more visually intricate masters.
Few other artists are able to so expertly contemplate the sadness, beauty, and wonder of life in so few lines.
