  • Issue #1
    Low Orbit Anthology (2007) 1

LOW ORBIT is a sci-fi/fantasy anthology featuring seven unique stories from creators NICK BRADSHAW, SEAN 'CHEEKS' GALLOWAY, ALINA GALLOWAY, RYAN ODAGAWA, JONBOY MEYER, ALLISON STROM, KEVIN DALTON, MARK ANDREW SMITH and MICHAEL WOODS. LONE STAR COMICS REVIEW BY REGIONAL MANAGER AARON SETTLE: If you're looking for something different, or better yet several something different, check out the Low Orbit Anthology. Low Orbit, with it's quick eight page stories spanning several different genres, brings back memories of Dark Horse Presents. While most of the stories are science fiction or fantasy, they represent a variety of artistic and storytelling styles that range from silly to very moving. Like any collection of this sort, not all of the stories will appeal to every reader, but even the pickiest reader will find several to their liking. "Songs From the Gully" and "Icarus Three" are probably my two favorite stories, but there are several more that I enjoyed. A word of warning though, these are eight page stories in an anthology so there is not a lot of closure. Readers can expect to be left anxiously awaiting the next installment for several of these stories, but that excitement of waiting for the next part of the story is part of what makes reading comic books fun. Cover price $6.99.

1st printing. Collects Low, Low Woods (2019 DC) #1-6.

Written by Carmen Maria Machado. Art by Dani. Cover by Sam Wolfe Connelly. Back Cover Cover by Jenny Frison.

Shudder-To-Think, Pennsylvania, has been on fire for years. The coal mines beneath it are long since abandoned. The woods are full of rabbits with human eyes, a deer woman who stalks hungry girls, and swaths of skinless men. And the people in Shudder-to-Think?

Well, theyre not doing so well either. When El and Octavia wake up in a movie theater with no memory of the last few hours of their lives, the two teenage dirtbags begin a surreal and terrifying journey to discover the truth about the strange town that they call home. Like so many women in Shudder-to-Think before them, all they have is a void where the truth once was. But as time passes, El finds herself needing to know more about what has happened, while Octavia wants nothing more than to forget the forgetting.

Can these two teens reconcile their differences before the horrible things lurking beneath their town emerge and swallow them whole?

1st printing. By Jason. The acclaimed graphic novelist Jason returns with his most eagerly awaited book yet, thanks to the inclusion of the title story, the world's first (and likely last) chess western. Originally serialized in 2008 to a huge (and hugely delighted) audience in the New York Times Sunday Magazine "Funny Pages" section, "Low Moon" made Jason's 2008 appearance at the MoCCA Arts Festival in Manhattan the talk of the prestigious show, catapulting the Norwegian star to an even new level of mass appeal. This 216-page hardcover book features five yarns - all brand new with the exception of the aforementioned "Low Moon," which is collected into book form for the first time. The new stories lead off with "Emily Says Hello," a typically deadpan Jason tale of murder, revenge and sexual domination. Then, the wordless "&" tells two tales at once: one about a skinny guy trying to steal enough money to save his ill mother, and the other about a fat guy murderously trying to woo his true love. The reason we follow these two parallel stories becomes obvious only on the very last page, in Jason's inimitable genre-mashing style. "Early Film Noir" can best be described as The Postman Always Rings Twice meets Groundhog Day. But starring cavemen. And finally, "You Are Here" features alien kidnappings, space travel, and the pain and confusion of family ties, culminating in an enigmatic finale that rivals Jason's greatest twists. Funny, poignant, and wry, Low Moon shows one of the world's most acclaimed graphic novelists at the absolute peak of his powers. Hardcover, 6 1/2-in. x 8 1/2-in., 216 pages, full color. Cover price $24.99.

Clayton lived at the intersection of numerous underground cultures, from drag queens to punks, gangbangers to tattoo artists, an icon of an increasingly vanishing New York.

    By Robert Williams.

This book is the first to featuring the amazing artwork of Robert Williams, containing an overview of Williams's early work until 1979.

In the late 20th and 21st century diverse forms of commonplace and popular art appeared to be coalescing into a formidable faction of new painted realism. The phenomenon owed its genesis to a number of factors. The new school of imagery was a product of art that didn't fit comfortably into the accepted definition of fine art. This alternative art movement found its most congealing participant in one of America's most opprobrious and maligned underground artists, the painter, Robert Williams.

This edition is enhanced with newer, more vibrant and accurate color images. T-shirt designs, comics, posters, and all paintings are accompanied by a text commenting on them and introducing Mr. Williams to the public.
