By Paul Castiglia and Bill Golliher. Based on the all-new animated series from DIC! 30 years after The Archie Show made television history as the highest-rated Saturday morning animated series of its time, Archie and his friends are back in animated form! Archie's Weird Mysteries combines the classic high school hi-jinx and dating dilemmas Archie fans have grown to love, with creepy mysteries that are equal parts X-Files and Scooby Doo! Of course, we had to spin off a new comic series to go along with the cartoon! "Just Another Para-Normal Day In Riverdale": Ace Riverdale High newspaper reporter Archie Andrews is in a rut ? he needs the perfect hook to keep people reading his column week after week. He's about to get it! A cosmic disturbance is about to rock Riverdale, and in its wake, the sleepy little town will be overrun with all manner of strange phenomena - from aliens to vampires to mad scientists and more! But if Archie is the only one to notice, will anyone believe him?! FC, 32pgs. Cover price $1.79.

Collecting some of the best tales from the series based on the hit cartoon, Archie and the gang continue their classic adventures - with a weird, offbeat twist! It seems the school's science department blew a fuse in its hyper sub-molecular quarkinator, and all sorts of things are now crawling and slithering through the town! It's up to Archie to look into the cases... and usually he happens to be there when they are resolved as well. All of the gang from the pop television series shows up, including occasional appearances from their own Sabrina the Teenage Witch, popular comic book character of the 1970s and popular television character of the late 1990s. Volume 1 - 1st printing. "May 1953 to January 1954!" Collects Mysteries (1953-1955) #1-5.

This one's a wacky entry and no denying, with Canadian publisher Superior Comics coming into the four-color horror ring all gloved up and swinging fit to punch the lights out of anybody who stands in their way. They kicked off with Journey Into Fear, Strange Mysteries (as opposed to pretty straightforward and perhaps even slightly boring mysteries), and the one-word extravaganza that was Mysteries, the latter calling itself variously Mysteries (its legal title) and, on the cover, Mysteries Weird and Strange.

The earlier tales were bizarre and quirky and it's pretty clear that inspiration was in short supply that day. Good stuff though, Clancy, with pens, pencils and plots coming from, among others, Jay Disbrow and the Igor Shop: clear a space on the shelf pronto.

    Hardcover, 184 pages, full color.

    Cover price $45.99.
