Volume 5 - 1st printing. Story and art by Mark Schultz. Mark Schultz continues to amaze! This fifth volume in his Carbon art-book series features new drawings and paintings, all created within the last two years. It's a wide-ranging potpourri of commissions, book illustrations, concept designs, comics and personal work, brimming with the unique imagery and subject matter for which Mark is celebrated. His media include carbon and graphite pencils, brush and ink, watercolor and gouache. The images feature Jack and Hannah from his Xenozoic tales, two new Paleonauts funny-book stories, Stormforce 10 concept designs, preparatory work for his upcoming Storms at Sea sequel and an assortment of science-fantasy subjects drawn from the fictional worlds that inspired his career. Volume 1 - 1st printing. Text by Kim Weston. Stories and art by and Carl Barks. These volumes print 22 complete Carl Barks stories in the original, full size they were originally drawn in glorious black and white. Volume 1 contains here are 2 Happy Hound (Droopy) stories, 3 Benny Burro solo stories, and 4 stories of the combined Barney Bear and Benny Burro feature. Volume 2 contains 13 stories of the combined Barney Bear & Benny Burro feature were originally published in Our Gang Comics #11-23. The book measures over 14 inches wide and 20 inches tall and weighs over 5 pounds. Looking at these pages as printed in this book is like looking at the pages fresh from the master's drawing board. Five early stories from 1943 are printed one page to the page in the book page with an image size of about 12 1/2" by 17 3/4", the size that Barks drew his original art in 1942 and most of 1943. These pages are so large that in order to fit them into this already large book, we must print each half page sideways on a single page so that if you turn the book sideways you can see each full page at the size it was drawn. This volume prints 13 complete large, four-tier Carl Barks stories in their original, full-size black-and-white format - one full page of art on each page of the book! These 13 stories of the combined Barney Bear & Benny Burro feature were originally published in Our Gang Comics #11-23, and another volume - containing the rest of the stories, from Our Gang Comics #24-36 - is planned for next year, yielding Barks' Complete MGM art in 3 volumes! This second volume measures 18" wide and 26" tall and weighs in at about 8 pounds! Looking at these pages as printed in this book is like looking at the pages fresh from the master's drawing board! The stories from are printed one art page to the book page, with a live image size of 16" x 23 1/4" - the size that Barks drew almost all his original art at, beginning in December 1943 until he retired in 1966, with only very rare exceptions. These pages are printed from proofs which are derived from the 7" x 10" photo negatives taken of the original art between December 1943 and December 1945. Looking at the stories in this book really is like looking at pages of Barks' original art because Barks didn't make many mistakes that needed correction in his art.
