Petey and Pussy (2000 Fontanelle Press) 1

Issue 1. 2000. Written and illustrated by John Kerschbaum. Petey and Pussy, reads very much like a Loony Tunes cartoon — if all of the anthropomorphic animals were kvetching, balding, foul-mouthed misanthropes. Each character is articulate (and, in fact, can speak directly to humans, well enough to order a beer) but still recognizably have the traits associated with their respective species: Pete, the dog, is happy-go-lucky; Pussy, the cat, is self-centered; and Bernie, the bird, is high-strung and constantly a-twitter. Together, they are the pets of a sweet old lady whose obliviousness to the lunacy unfolding around her is second only to her own hygienic repugnance. 6.5" x 10.25". 24 pages. Black and white. Mature. Cover price $2.50.

He's out of work, he and his longtime girlfriend have just broken up, and when he goes out for a run to ease his frazzled nerves, he falls and injures his back so badly, he's strictly forbidden from running. What's an endorphin-loving cartoonist to do? In a bid to distract himself, Pascal throws himself into his other pleasure: reading. And while at the bookstore one day, he spies a young woman picking up his own book. But then she darts out of the shop without paying. Bemused, he decides to figure out why she did it. Pascal Girard intermingles an all-too-true-to-life snapshot of contemporary relationships with slapstick trials and dryly funny tribulations in this delightfully readable book. Phantom Twin HC (2020 First Second Books) 1-1ST

    1st Printing.

Story and art by Lisa Brown.

A young woman is haunted by the ghost of her conjoined twin, in this sweetly spooky graphic novel set in a turn-of-the-century sideshow.

Isabel spent her life following Jane's lead. Literally-of the two conjoined twins, Jane was always the stronger one, both physically and emotionally. But when Jane dies on the operating table during a risky attempt to separate the twins, Isabel is left alone. Or is she? Soon, Jane returns, attached to Isabel from shoulder to hip just like she used to be. Except Isabel is the only person who can see Jane-a ghost, a phantom limb, a phantom twin.

Against a vivid backdrop of the hardscrabble life of circus sideshow freaks at the turn of the century, Isabel's story unfolds as an unforgettable coming-of-age tale from picture book star Lisa Brown.

    Hardcover, 6 1/2-in. x 9-in., 208 pages, full color.

    Cover price $24.99.

1st printing. Collects Plain Janes GN (2007 DC/Minx), Janes in Love GN (2008 Minx), and Janes Attack Back [First time in print].

Written by Cecil Castellucci. Art and cover by Jim Rugg. Foreword by Mariko Tamari.

    The Janes are back!

For the very first time, the first two installments of the cult classic graphic novel The Plain Janes - 'The Plain Janes' and 'Janes in Love' - are available bound up into one volume with a never-before-seen third story, 'Janes Attack Back.'

After getting caught in the midst of a terrorist attack on Metro City, artsy misfit Jane Beckles is forced to leave her beloved bustling metropolis for the boring suburb of Kent Waters. At first Jane thinks her life is over, but then she finds where she belongs: at the reject table in the cafeteria, along with Brain Jayne, Theater Jane, and sporty Polly Jane. United by only two things - a shared name and an all-too-relatable frustration with the adults around them - the girls form P.L.A.I.N., aka People Loving Art In Neighborhoods, a secret club dedicated to waking up their fellow citizens with guerrilla works of art scattered around town. But for Main Jane, the group is more than just a simple act of teenaged rebellion, it's an act of survival.

Armed with her sketchbook and a mission of resistance, she's out to prove that true passion and a group of good friends can save anyone from the hell that is high school.

    Hardcover, 496 pages, B&W.

    Cover price $26.99.
