By Stephan Pastis.
Smart, sharp, and sometimes painfully honest, Pearls Before Swine mocks the flaws and shortcomings of human nature with cynical humor. Stephan Pastiss key to humor: When in doubt, kill cute things. Cartoonist Stephan Pastis's 50,000,000 Pearls Fans Can't Be Wrong is one collection that's destined for the top of the charts. It's pure gold, packed with smart, sharp, and painfully honest comic strips that will rock readers with their clever insights into the human soul.
Pearls Before Swine is Pastis's hilarious comic strip tale of two friends: arrogant, egotistical, "hound dog" Rat, and slow-witted, painfully naive, "teddy bear" Pig. Along with Zebra, the "jailhouse rock" activist; Goat, the "treat me nice" reluctant brain; and the "heartbreak hotel" carnivorous Crocs, Pearls delightfully mocks the flaws and shortcomings of human nature. Ladies and gentlemen, the King has left the building.

Tags: Sherman's Lagoon Collection (part 9), Comic Strip ReprintsPublished Apr 2005 by Andrews McMeel.$2.65
$11.00
1st printing.
Story and art by Jim Toomey.
Sherman the dim-witted shark and his cast of characters in Sherman's Lagoon provide enough laughs for a barrel of monkeys, not that they've ever seen any. The Lagoonies, as they're known to regular comic strip readers, are a motley crew—mostly of sea life—known for their acerbic humor.
There's Megan, Sherman's wife (a soft-touch despite the tough exterior). Fillmore the sea turtle makes up for Sherman's lack of intellect. Hawthorne the hermit crab resides in a beer can and is always in a "crabby" mood. Ernest the fish is a computer whiz, and Thornton the polar bear stumbled upon the island while floating by on an iceberg. Captain Quigley is the only human (or "beach ape") who resides in Sherman's Lagoon. He lost his leg to Sherman and is now out for revenge, but never quite gets close enough. To round out the cast there's Bob the bottom dweller. Enough said.

1st printing. Story and art by Allison Conway. It's summer in the countryside. The wildlife, down to the tiniest creature, is thriving. It's the New York City of the insect world; a melting pot of bugs, birds, and beasts of all kinds. Millie the pillbug feels like a bug apart. Unlike her friends, Millie needs to stay moist all the time, she doesn't pee, and she's the only vegetarian. How will she ever fit in and find meaning in her short life? The bug world is harsh. One minute you're snacking on a scrumptious aphid, the next you're being eaten alive by your spouse! Plus you've got social drama and your family questioning your 'alternative' lifestyle to deal with. Ugh. With humor, delight, and a touch of terror, NYC-based author Allison Conway brings us a collection of slice-of-life comics about being a young, female isopod in a modern, ever-changing world.
