Blackhawk and the entire Blackhawk Squadron appeared in Blackhawk: Fearless Champion of Freedom, a 1952 Columbia serial. Blackhawk was played by Kirk Alyn, better known as the first actor to play Superman on film. The team battled the mysterious Leader in a series of fifteen twelve-minute episodes. The series was so popular, the phrase "Flash Gordon" became a general term to describe science fiction - or anything outlandish - until well into the 1970s. The three serials,  Flash Gordon (1936), Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938), and Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940) were re-edited into feature films for re-release and television. Radio superhero (and the Lone Ranger's 1930s nephew), The Green Hornet came to the screen in two Universal serials in 1940 and 1941, starring Gordon Jones and Keye Luke (as co-hero Kato). Interestingly, whenever Britt Reid put on the mask of The Green Hornet, his voice was dubbed by Al Hodge, who played GH on the radio. Screen credits are included for the completist.
