In December 1977, Deni Loubert published Cerebus No.1, Dave Sims comic book that followed the adventures of a short-tempered, barbarian Aardvark. Originally conceived as a parody of Barry Windsor-Smiths masterfully illustrated Conan the Barbarian (which was a big hit for Marvel Comics in the 1970s), Sim quickly developed his own voice as a storyteller and illustrator, eventually abandoning the typical self-contained, single-issue adventures, in favor of elaborate story-arcs spanning dozens of issues.

In December 1977, Deni Loubert published Cerebus No.1, Dave Sims comic book that followed the adventures of a short-tempered, barbarian Aardvark.
