The Best of Captain Marvel is one in a series of reprints published in 1975 by comic and toy collector Don Maris. This issue is unique in that it does not reprint an actual Golden Age comic. Also included is a variety of related items: Capt. Marvel newspaper comics, a 1940's era article (with photos) about the Fawcett office showing creators at work on the comics, and reproductions of extremely rare announcement sheets that were sent to newsstand distibutors to encourage them to carry and promote new Golden Age titles. While similar in format to the Flashback reprints published by DynaPubs (Alan Light), the Maris editions reprint different Gold Age issues and represent better reproduction quality. Note: Hit Comics #1, Plastic Man #2, and Silver Streak #6 are the only issues reprinted by both publishers. The Maris and Flashback issues have become very collectible in their own right.
