Comic books November 1943

Vintage monthly published magazine with a focus on the film industry as a whole. First published in November of 1930, publication continued through the late 1970s. Priding itself as a source for exclusive behind the scenes stories about filmmaking, Silver Screen also contained a fair amount of articles about celebrities, their relationships, the latest in fashion, and film reviews. United's anthology featured reprints of early comic strips plus an original hero, The Spark Man, who joined the military to fight in WWII. Having sabotaged the anti-aircraft batteries of the Stuttgart dam, The Spark Man is captured by Nazis and taken to a torture dungeon in an old castle. In a strip that plays on comic-strip politics of the time, Bathless Groggins is dismayed that cartoonist Cal App is partying with the rich and famous, while relying on an anonymous assistant to do his strip. Theatre Arts Monthly (October, 1943). TAM is legendary for its thorough and insightful coverage of the stage, both in American and England.
