    Cover by Ernie Bushmiller. Stories and art by Ernie Bushmiller, Charles Schulz, Al Capp, Sam Leff, Henning Mikkelsen, George Jahns and Elsie Hix. Tip-Topper Comics collected some of United Features Syndicates most popular comic strips of the 1940s in full color, including Lil Abner and Fritzi Ritz. Fritzi was later known as "Aunt Fritzi" in the Nancy comic strip. Phil has second thoughts about taking Fritzi to an expensive restaurant. One of the backup strips in the comic is Charles Schulz's Peanuts, then only in its third year; several daily strips are presented in full color. (In some strips, the comic-book colorist gave Charlie Brown "hair.") The shape of Charlie Brown's head plays against him in hide and seek. Charlie Brown seeks a sponsor to play softball, in what could be one of the earliest Peanuts baseball strips. Charlie Brown meets the "new girl," Violet, and so does Snoopy.     Silent-movie cowboy Tom Mix became a pop-culture icon with his 1940s radio show and this tie-in comic. When a dispute over a watering hole leads to murder, a chalk "X" on a coat points Tom Mix to the killer, much like in the classic movie "M." Outlaw Rex realizes he can seize the Harris family farm for himself because a proper deed was never filed on it. Trying to evade Tom Mix, a killer hides out in an ornamental suit of armor, leading to a clanking cowboy-knight fight.
