"Focus" Part 1 of 3. Script by Lee Weeks. Pencils by Lee Weeks. Inks by Robert Campanella and Richard Case. Cover by Lee Weeks. The death of Captain George Stacy in Amazing Spider-Man (1st series) #90 was a significant character-forming event in the life of Peter Parker. However the aftermath and impact of Captain Stacy's death went relatively unexplored during the bronze age. This limited series takes the web-slinger's fans back to the days following the police captain's death. After the events of Amazing Spider-Man #90, the wondrous wall-crawler scours the city searching for Dr. Octopus. Spider-Man thinks he can restore his reputation by bringing Doc Ock to justice...and by proving that Doc Ock killed Captain Stacy -- when he knocked the chimney off the rooftop. But is Peter neglecting his girlfriend -- Captain Stacy's daughter -- because he's spending too much time as Spider-Man right now? The wall-crawler is walking a tightrope in more ways than one! Cameo appearances by J. Jonah Jameson, Joe Robertson, Professor Miles Warren, Harry Osborn, John Jameson, Aunt May, and Mary Jane Watson. (Notes: The third story in Amazing Spider-Man 365 also touches on the aftermath of Captain Stacy's death from Mary Jane's perspective. Dynamic Forces offered signed versions of this issue.) 32 pages. Checkers reprint "G". Partial reprint - the checkers version is 36 total pages whereas the original was 52 pages. Has a newsprint cover and a Wrigley's chewing gum/Gameboy ad on back cover. THE SCOOP: Comics' greatest heroes leap into the 21st Century in a new line perfect for a new generation of readers! THE STORY: An outsider even amongst his own peers, highschool student Peter Parker is a young man at the crossroads of destiny. Orphaned as a youth and raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May, Peter finds himself the target of a constant tirade of pranks perpetrated by school jock "Flash" Thompson and his burly bud, nicknamed "Kong." But when fate intercedes and Peter finds himself the recipient of strange and amazing powers, how long can our hero ignore the painful prodding? And when industrialist Norman Osborn takes a deadly "interest" in this development, will Peter be able to avoid a violent case of "corporate downsizing"? When backed into a corner, will our hero learn that with great power there must come great responsibility? THE CREATORS: Look up the phrase "hot writer" and you'll find the name Brian Michael Bendis. But more than just the next big thing, Bendis has?in a short time? accumulated a legion of admirers for his crisp characterizations and dead-on dialogue. Bendis is joined by classic AMAZING SPIDER-MAN penciler Mark Bagley, who brings with him both years of experience and the ability to continually deliver dynamic super hero storytelling. Add on the inks of Art Thibert and you have a team that is armed with the best of veteran and fresh talent needed to thrill a new audience. THE IDEA: "Our characters have been around for almost 40 years," explained Bill Jemas, Marvel's President of Publishing & New Media. "It's great that our comics are so rich that storylines run forever, but we want the Ultimate books to be accessible to the first-time reader. Someone will be able to pick up an issue of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN and ULTIMATE X-MEN and have enough information in one issue to understand and appreciate it. Cover price $2.25.

Mad Engine Variant/No Free Comic Book Day Logo. It does identify as the FCBD edition in the indicia, but not on the front cover. NOTE: This variant is a 32 page partial reprint of Ultimate Spider-Man #1 - the original story had 48 pages. The Mad Engine Edition is believed to be a promotional item only available with purchases from the Marvel Apparel Line licensed through Mad Engine. Both of the Mad Engine Variants (FCBD COVER LOGO and NO LOGO) can easily be identified by the presence of the Mad Engine ad on the back cover instead of the Pop Tarts ad used for the regular FCBD edition. Also, the Mad Engine FCBD Editions have better paper stock and glossy covers whereas the regular FCBD edition had newsprint paper stock and cover.
