The Tiger Girl, created by Robert Webb, was also known as Princess Vishnu. She was brought from India to Africa by her father Rajah Vishnu, after the death of her Irish mother. She was an excellent leader and pretty good in a fight, especially when she used her whip and her tiger ring, which gave her added strength when she looked at it and was accompanied by her companions: Benzali, a tiger, and Abdola, an Indian man. She protected her lost civilization from outsiders and others who meant harm. She became one of Fiction House's longest-lived characters; her stories continued to be published for over a decade until the company ceased operations in 1954. Doug Danville was a wealthy New York playboy who decided to fight crime. He put on a costume and began his career as K the Unknown. He later changed his costume and became the Black Owl! Doug got involved with Terry Dane, a private investigator and true to comic-book tradition, she greatly admired the Black Owl and belittled Doug Danville for being useless. Nevertheless he continued fighting criminals as the Black Owl, until he enlisted in the Army and handed down his costume to Walt Walters, the father of Yank and Doodle (more of this later). With a whole host of enemies including Chief Skullface, the Fox, Frankenstein, Funnibone, the Green Mummy, the Tiger Lady, the Laughing Head and the Terrible Midge, among others, the Black Owl had plenty to keep him busy and probably had to do overtime during the day time hours!
