First Edition Library was formed to create as exact a duplicate of the original first edition of famous American books like The Great Gatsby or The Grapes of Wrath. They went so far as to even commission ink or type be created to replicate an edition if that color or font was now extinct. Besides classics, they also produced twelve editions of science fiction. Tarzan of the Apes, originally published in 1914, was one of these and one of the more famous (copies in fine condition have been sold for five figures). The FEL editions also feature a sturdy slipcase, usually replicating the dustjacket. This is a first edition, identified by the FEL colophon on the rear inside dust jacket flap and the explanatory text block on the copyright page. Special mention should be made of the cloth boards: they exactly replicate the first edition in every detail, down to the spine's A.C. McClurg identification not having the acorn between the A and C, the special maroon cloth and the two embedded framing lines on the cover surrounding the gilt title and author credit. Hardcover novel limited to 2500 copies. Book measures approx. 5 1/4-in. x 7 1/2-in. Slipcase measures 5 3/8-in. x 8-in.

This item is not in stock at MyComicShop. If you use the "Add to want list" tab to add this issue to your want list, we will email you when it becomes available.

1st printing. Collects Tarzan: The Lost Adventure (1995) #1-4. Written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and Joe Lansdale. Art by Studley O. Burroughs, Gary Gianni, Michael Kaluta, Monty Sheldon, Charles Vess, and Thomas Yeats. Painted cover by Dean Williams. For nearly half a century, Edgar Rice Burroughs' final work, an unfinished Tarzan novel, was locked in a vault where it became the stuff of legend. In 1995, Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan: The Lost Adventure enjoyed its Dark Horse debut as a series of four pulp-magazine format books. Now, one year later, the story has been collected and reformatted into an illustrated prose novel, in the classic tradition of those prized Tarzan first editions. The tale- completed by famed horror writer Joe R. Lansdale - is wrapped in a dust jacket featuring painted art by Disney artist Dean Williams. The book is illustrated throughout by such legends as Thomas Yeates, Charles Vess, Gary Gianni, and Michael Kaluta, and includes a reproduction of Edgar Rice Burroughs' personal bookplate, designed by Burroughs' nephew, Studley O.
