Reprints Marvel 1602 (2003) #1. Written by Neil Gaiman. Art by Andy Kubert. Colors by Richard Isanove. Cover by Scott McKowen. "I get it all the time now. I just arrived in Portugal, in Lisbon, to promote CORALINE, and the first question I was asked, in the car from the airport to the hotel was 'So, can you tell me anything about 1602?' And I said, 'It's drawn by Andy Kubert, colored by Richard Isanove, lettered by Todd Klein, covers by Scott McKowen and I saw a photocopy of the first issue and it looks pretty good.' 'Yes, but the story... What's it about?' 'Oh, you know,' I said. 'Stuff.' 'Well, is it the Marvel characters? Or characters you invented yourself?' 'Yes,' I said. 'That's pretty much it.' 'But how long is it?' 'I think it'll be eight issues. It was meant to be six, but I'm writing episode 5 right now, and there's a lot of story to tell.' 'So why is it such a secret...?' It got to be a secret because the idea of 1602 was fairly straightforward, and really fun, and I hated the idea of people being familiar with it, even bored of it, by the time it came out. So I asked Joe Quesada if he'd mind if we didn't make a big announcement at the start. But the more people asked me, buttonholed me, pleaded with me, the more I liked the fact that only a tiny handful of people at Marvel and I had even seen Andy's amazing pencils or Richard's colors. This was starting to be a genuinely fun secret -- like not telling someone what their birthday present is until it's time to unwrap it. What am I going to tell you? It's really fun. It's set in the Marvel Universe. It looks gorgeous. You may even like it. There are sixteen hundred & two good reasons for telling you all about it, and I'm not saying a word. Think of it as your birthday present." - Neil Gaiman, May 2003. Cover price $1.00.

By Roy Thomas.
It was an age of mighty heroes, misunderstood monsters, and complex villains.
With the publication, in November 1961 of Fantastic Four #1, comics giant Marvel inaugurated a transformative era in pop culture. Through the next two decades, the iconic Hulk, Spider-Man, Iron Man,and the X-Men leapt, darted, and towered through its pages. The Marvel Age of Comics 1961-1978 takes you to the heart of this seminal segment in comic history, an age of triumphant character and narrative innovation that reinvented the super hero genre.
With hundreds of images and insider insights, the book traces the birth of champions who were at once epic in their powers and adversaries and grounded in a world that readers recognized as close to their own; relatable heroes with the same problems, struggles, and shortcomings as everyone else.

1st Edition - 1st printing.
By Pierre Comtois.
TwoMorrows Publishing presents Marvel Comics in the 1970s, the sequel to Pierre Comtois' heralded first volume on the 1960s! This full decade of pop-culture history saw Stan Lee's role as writer diminish as he ascended to Publisher, the departure of Jack Kirby to DC (and his later return to Marvel), the rise of Roy Thomas as editor (and eventual Editor In Chief), and the introduction of a new wave of writers and artists who would expand the boundaries of comics beyond super-heroes.
Comics such as the Spider-Man "drug" issues, Conan the Barbarian, Tomb of Dracula, Master of Kung Fu, Howard the Duck, the new X-Men, and more are covered in detail, along with the creators who wrote and drew them.
Check out Marvel Comics in the 1970s and find out why Marvel was once hailed as The House of Ideas!

An Issue by Issue field Guide to a Pop Culture Phenomenon
1st printing. By Pierre A. Comtois. This new volume in the ongoing "Marvel Comics in the..." series takes you all the way back to that company's legendary beginnings, when gunfighters traveled the West and monsters roamed the Earth! The company's output in other genres influenced the development of their super-hero characters from Thor to Spider-Man, and featured here are the best of those stories not covered previously, completing issue-by-issue reviews of every Marvel comic of note from 1961-1965! Presented are scores of handy, easy to reference entries on Amazing Fantasy, Tales of Suspense (and Astonish), Strange Tales, Journey Into Mystery, Rawhide Kid, plus issues of Fantastic Four, Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, and others that weren't in the previous 1960s edition. It's author Pierre Comtois' last word on Marvel's early years, when Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Don Heck, together with writer/editor Stan Lee (and brother Larry!), built an unprecedented new universe of excitement! Softcover, 8-in. x 11-in., 224 pages, B&W. Cover price $29.95.

1st printing. Marvel Studios' approach to its Cinematic Universe, beginning with the release of Iron Man (2008), has become the template for successful management of blockbuster film properties. Yet films featuring Marvel characters can be traced back to the 1940s, when the Captain America serial first appeared on the screen. This collection of new essays is the first to explore the historical, textual and cultural context of the larger cinematic Marvel universe, including serials, animated films, television movies, non-U.S. versions of Marvel characters, films that feature characters licensed by Marvel, and the contemporary Cinematic Universe as conceived by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. Art by Jack Kirby, John Buscema, Joe Sinnott, Sal Buscema, Dan Adkins, Chic Stone, and Herb Trimpe. Cover by John Buscema. Introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the fertile pages of The Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer quickly established himself as one of Marvel's most far-out characters. Enslaved by Galactus to prowl the cosmos for the demi-god's next planet-sized meal, the Surfer was as tragic a figure as any in comics-and he looked impossibly cool at the same time! In the spring of 1968, things came together for both writer and character, with Lee giving the Surfer Marvel's very first ongoing double-sized book. Volume 1 - 1st printing. "1963-1966!" Collects The Uncanny X-Men (1963 1st Series) #1-21. Written by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas. Art by Jack Kirby, Werner Roth (as Jay Gavin), Paul Reinman, Chic Stone, Vince Colletta, Joe Sinnott, and Dick Ayers. Cover by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky. Foreword by Chris Claremon. Essay by Fabian Nicieza. When Martin Goodman asked Stan Lee to deliver another new team book for his line of comics, he had no idea he'd be getting something like The X-Men. What they started out as was a charming, ragtag team of misfits, devised by Lee and Kirby to be mutants-youngsters born with "X-tra" powers thrust upon them not by accidentally crossing paths with cosmic rays or a nuclear blast, but by the fate of birth, led by a no-nonsense professor who trained them to become heroes that could protect the world from menaces, mutant and otherwise. The first years of storytelling laid the foundation for much of what has put the X-Men at the crossroads of comics and popular culture: Hounded by a public that fears and misunderstands them, mutantkind find themselves at the heart of their own civil rights struggle; Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast, and Iceman found safety amongst themselves despite the challenges that set them apart from others in society; and Professor Xavier lined up against his ideological foe, Magneto, who had assembled a Brotherhood of Evil Mutants to take the fight directly to humankind. Close in size to the original artworks, this XXL-sized edition features the first 21 stories of our favorite oddball super heroes from 1963-1966. In addition to these seminal tales are an original foreword by modern X-Men mastermind Chris Claremont, reliving the heyday of Lee and Kirby's foundational years, and an in-depth essay by X-Men writer Fabian Nicieza alongside original art, photographs, and memorabilia from the early years of X. Hardcover (with Box), 11-in. x 15-in., 640 pages, full color. All Ages NOTE: Limited to 5,000 copies. Cover price $200.00.
