    1st printing.

Jim Lee began his career at Marvel comics in the mid-1980s. Rising in popularity at a rapid pace, he soon took over the company's flagship title and made it his own: The X-Men. In the '90s, Lee formed his own company, WildStorm Productions, which was later bought by DC Comics, allowing the artist the opportunity to draw the adventures of some of comics' oldest and most iconic superheroes: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, to name a few.

This Artifact Edition will focus on the last 25 years of Jim Lee's storied career, showcasing his rendition of the Dark Knight Detective, as well as the last Son of Krypton, all the while placing his own unique stamp on each character. As with all Artifact Editions, each page will be scanned from the original art, offering a unique look at the creative process of one of the most popular and creative artists working in the field. The only way you could get a better look at Jim Lee's original art is if you were sitting next to him at his drawing board! Additionally, there will be examples of WildC.A.T.s and other pre-DC work.

    Hardcover, 12-in. x 17-in., 144 pages, B&W.

NOTE: IDW Publishing pioneered Artist's Edition type books and to date they have won five prestigious Eisner Awards.

While many cartoonists in the late '60s and early '70s were "turning on, tuning in, and dropping out," Jim Osborne was cut from a much darker cloth, delving into the extreme underbelly of American popular culture with unsettling comics about murder, conspiracy, and demons, both figurative and literal. Jim Osborne: The Black Prince of the Underground includes a biography of Osborne by Dennis Dread and collects all of the artist's stories and illustrations from formative publications like Yellow Dog, Bijou Funnies, and National Lampoon, many republished here for the first time in decades.

Softcover, 132 pages, B&W. Mature Readers Cover price $25.00.

This item is not in stock at MyComicShop. If you use the "Add to want list" tab to add this issue to your want list, we will email you when it becomes available.

1st printing. Story and art by Gary Panter. "Don't try to pass a pop quiz on Dante's Hell based on a reading of this comic," warns Gary Panter. "It won't work. Even though the comic is engorged with Dante's Hell and though Jimbo mouths a super-condensed version of what happens in The Inferno, canto by canto, characters are fused, actions inverted, parodied, subject to mutation by my odd memories and obsessions and whims..." That said, Jimbo's Inferno is the hugely anticipated sequel (or prequel, as it was actually completed first) to Jimbo In Purgatory. In this oversize hardcover cloth-and-gold-finished volume, produced to the same exacting standards as 2004's Purgatory, Jimbo, accompanied by his trusty guide and ride Valise, visits Hell (here envisioned as a gigantic subterranean shopping mall called Focky Bocky), and in so doing runs across minotaurs, drug-addled punkettes, UFOs, giant robots, and more, leading him to such profound questions as, "Why do so many recreational activities involve smoke and heat?" Panter's Albrecht Dürer-meets-Jack Kirby graphics are wilder and more hallucinatory than ever, and given the full, expansive treatment they so richly deserve. Hardcover, 11-in. x 15-in., 40 pages, B&W. Cover price $29.95.

Jimmy The Comic Art of James Swinnerton HC (2025 FB) 1-1ST

    (see more images)

1st printing. The definitive collection of comics and illustration from 1892 to 1942 by James Swinnerton, one of the founding fathers of the American comic strip. James Swinnerton is one of the most creative, respected, and prolific comic artists from the first half of the 20th century. Yet to the disappointment of classic comics lovers, his work has seen little reproduction. Until now. This sumptuous volume covers Swinnerton's six-decade career in comics, from his beginnings as a sports/editorial cartoonist for William Randolph Hearst in San Francisco to his years in the America's Southwest desert, where his love for the land and its people came through in his comics and illustration. Swinnerton is an excellent storyteller offering a cinematic style with humor that is both slapstick and sophisticated. At the forefront is his long-running Little Jimmy comic strip. This namesake character began by mixing satire of New York society with stories of rural America. He then took the characters on the road to South America, Mexico, and then settling for many years in Swinnerton's beloved Southwest. Also included in this book are his early one-shots and series like the rakish Mr. Jack and the anthropomorphic Mt. Ararat, and his 1940s stylized comic of the modern West, Rocky Mason. Swinnerton was famous for more than just comics. He wrote and illustrated the charming feature "The Canyon Kiddies" and similar titles for weekly magazines. In his later years he became known as a premier painter of desert landscapes. All of these are featured in this book. Jimmy! includes an illustrated biography and essays by co-editor Michael Tisserand and Eddie Campbell. The comic strips in this volume are carefully restored to their original colors and printed at near-full size. Swinnerton lovers will be delighted by the richness and variety of the works seen here. Those new to this uniquely American artist will likely join the growing numbers who appreciate his important role in the history of the comics. Hardcover, 11-in. x 17-in., 160 pages, full color. Cover price $100.00.

    1st Edition - 1st printing.

Written by James Sturm. Art and cover by Rich Tommaso.

Baseball Hall of Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige changed the face of the game in a career that spanned five decades. Much has been written about this larger-than-life pitcher, but when it comes to Paige, fact does not separate easily from fiction. A tall, lanky fireballer, he was arguably the Negro League's hardest thrower, most entertaining storyteller and greatest gate attraction. Now the Center for Cartoon Studies turns a graphic novelist's eye to Paige's story.

Told from the point of view of a sharecropper, this compelling narrative follows Paige from game to game as he travels throughout the segregated South.

Hardcover, 96 pages, B&W (with Green shading).

    Cover price $16.99.
