1st printing. Written by Otto Binder, Ray Bradbury, Johnny Craig, Jack Davis, Al Feldstein, Jack Oleck, and Carl Wessler. Art and cover by Jack Davis. Appreciation by Grant Geissman. Introduction by Thommy Burns. The ultimate collection of Jack Davis EC stories! When Jack Davis took up his pen for EC Comics, he imbued his stories with a playful sense of (gallows) humor that made his innocent victims more eye-poppingly terrified, his ax-murders more gleefully gruesome, and his revenge-seeking corpses more morbidly motivated than any other EC artist. These horror and suspense tales - from the pages of Vault of Horror, Haunt of Fear, Crime SuspenStories, and Shock SuspenStories - include frightful fare such as "Hyde and Go Shriek!", "Tombs-Day!", "Witch Witch's Witch!", "Head-Room!", "Chop Talk!", "Coffin Spell!", and more, all leavened with the cackling, pun-laced wit of scripter Al Feldstein and illuminated as only the virtuoso brushwork of Jack Davis can present them. But the standout story is "Foul Play," the most infamous of all EC horror stories, in which a baseball team takes revenge on a murderous rival player by, um (spoiler alert), "repurposing" various parts of his anatomy for one final blood-spattered, organ-scattered inning. You'll never see a baseball game the same way again. And as gruesome as it sounds (and is!), Davis deftly pulls it off with aplomb and a mordant sense of absurd humor that will have you cringing and laughing at the same time. Plus, not one, not two, but three Davis-driven adaptations of haunting short stories by Ray Bradbury: "The Coffin!", "Let's Play Poison!", and "The Black Ferris!". We round out this volume with all three of Davis's EC science-fiction adventures, and all five of his aerial war stories from the legendary EC title, Aces High. 40 stories in all, most scripted by EC legend Al Feldstein, plus in-depth commentary by EC experts Thommy Burns and Grant Geissman. Hardcover, 6-in.x 9-in., 312 pages, B&W. Cover price $35.00.

Story and art by George Herriman.
Meticulously and lovingly restored, this exquisite, generously sized volume collects the acclaimed and groundbreaking Krazy Kat Sunday strips of 1925, 1926, and 1927.
This Eisner Award-nominated series showcases one of the most renowned and celebrated comic strips in the art form's history as it strides boldly through the mid-1920s, its quirky characters in full flower in this gorgeous, archival hardcover collection.
In this volume: Ignatz repeatedly sets elaborate traps for Krazy (long before the Road Runner), adventures on the "enchanted mesa," wacky weather, literal cliffhangers - and what happens when Santa and the stork arrive at the same chimney at the same moment? BONUS: The most complete collection of Herriman's long-lost Book of Magic pages ever assembled.
With incisive essays by Herriman scholars, this entry in our ongoing series makes it plain to Herriman fans and newcomers alike why historians, scholars, and cartoonists consider this to be the best comic strip ever created and why The Comics Journal proclaimed it to be "the greatest comic strip of the 20th Century."
Krazy Kat is an ongoing story of a (head-) achingly unrequited love triangle. Krazy adores Ignatz, who returns that affection by launching literal bricks at Krazy's cranium. Offisa Pup loves Krazy and seeks to protect "her" (Herriman always maintained that Krazy is genderless) by tossing Ignatz in the pokey. With this deceptively simple structure, Herriman builds entire worlds of meaning into the actions, building thematic depth and sweeping his readers up with the looping verbal and visual rhythms of his characters' unique dialogue and his loopy, ever-shifting surrealistic backgrounds.

1st printing. Written by Michael Burgan. Art by Gordon Purcell and Terry Beatty. Capstone Press seems to want to ensure that they have the corner on the market created by a federal mandate that all schools receiving federal funds observe Constitution Day on September 17 each year. In this case, the book appeals to the easy-read market by using a graphic novel approach that actually works fairly well. The book concentrates on the struggle amongst the Founding Fathers to resolve the tricky issue of how their new country could reach a balance between putting all power in one leader's hands and the chaos that might come of a loose union of independent states. In effect, the graphic story book style of breaking the narrative into many boxes reflects the way the Constitution was the result of a complex interplay of many individuals and points of view. The illustrations, done in a classic "comic book" style with period dress and background help set the historical context. In addition to the story itself, the book includes a glossary and index, bibliography, and a clever link to internet resources that are age appropriate. Softcover, 7-in. x 8 1/2-in., 32 pages, full color. All Ages Cover price $7.95.

1st printing. Written by Xavier Niz. Art by Brian Bascle. The story of the United States, from its rebellion against Great Britain to the construction of the Statue of Liberty, is celebrated in this line of illustrated histories designed to teach school children about history. The spark of the American Revolution is told in The Boston Tea Party, as Boston merchants and patriots protest Britain's excessive taxation by destroying shipments of tea in Boston Harbor. As Britain moves to quell Boston's rebellion, Paul Revere's Ride alerts the countryside outside Boston of the movement of Britain's army. Winter at Valley Forge tells the compelling story of George Washington's army, reeling from defeats in New York and Pennsylvania, as it rebuilds for the coming campaign in conditions of deprivation and cold. The War of Independence won, the nascent United States turned to The Creation of the U.S. Constitution to form a new government that could govern the former British colonies as a unified nation. Three decades after the American Revolution Britain and America went to war once more, and the story of a young lawyer named Francis Scott Key and the poem he wrote upon witnessing of the bombardment of Fort McHenry in Baltimore's harbor is told in The Story of the Star-Spangled Banner. Finally, a century after America's independence from Britain, a sculptor in France celebrates the spark of liberty lit by America, and his story - and the story of his greatest creation - is told in The Story of the Statue of Liberty. These stories, by comics creators like Dave Hoover, Matt Doeden, Terry Beatty, Gordon Purcell, and more, will educate children in the American experience. Cover by Marvin Bradley and Frank Edgington. Stories and art by Marvin Bradley and Frank Edgington. The first issue of this showcase series from future children's publisher Harvey has a place in comics history. It reprints the comic strip Rex Morgan, MD, by Marvin Bradley and Frank Edgington, featuring a standard anti-drug storyline. But the lurid pre-Code cover blurb and art attracted the attention of anti-comics crusader Dr. Frederic Wertham, who mentioned it in the text of his anti-comics classic Seduction of the Innocent (p. 27). The Comics Code, of course, was soon to follow. Rex Morgan, MD: Teen-Age Dope Slaves; Meet the Creators of Rex Morgan, M.D. 36 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.

Bill Moyers — "I have returned to no other book more often since leaving college than this one, and every time I discover new insight into the human journey. Every generation will find in Hero wisdom for the ages."
George Lucas — "In the three decades since I discovered The Hero with a Thousand Faces, it has continued to fascinate and inspire me. Joseph Campbell peers through centuries and shows us that we are all connected by a basic need to hear stories and understand ourselves. As a book, it is wonderful to read; as illumination into the human condition, it is a revelation."
Time — "Campbells words carry extraordinary weight, not only among scholars but among a wide range of other people who find his search down mythological pathways relevant to their lives today....The book for which he is most famous, The Hero with a Thousand Faces [is] a brilliant examination, through ancient hero myths, of mans eternal struggle for identity."
