Tales of crime and mobsters, both true and fictional, a prime example of the genre that thrived in the years before the Comics Code. The notorious cover of this issue portrays a spoof of anti-comics crusader Dr. Fredric Wertham bound and gagged, something acknowledged by the artists and Wertham himself, who points it out in both the illustrations and text of his 1954 anti-comics classic, Seduction of the Innocent. A female crimelord tries to turn herself and her fellow crooks into high-society types in 1880s New York. Spinster sisters Tabby and Birdie Rosebud, "the 70-year-old teenagers," enter a stock-car race in their ancient jalopy and astound fans and drivers alike with their speed. Volume 9 - 1st printing. "Wolverton!" Basil Wolverton (July 9, 1909 - December 31, 1978) born in Central Point, Oregon and later moved to Vancouver, Washington. He worked as a vaudeville performer and a cartoonist and reporter for the Portland News. Wolverton was a master in caricaturing the human face and body and his drawings have elicited a wide range of reactions - he even described himself as a "Producer of Preposterous Pictures of peculiar People who Prowl this Perplexing Planet." Preferring to work with pen and ink, Wolverton's lack of artistic schooling gave his drawings an otherworldly appearance. There was no other artist at the time who drew like him! This volume collects Wolverton stories from Spacehawk #17-34 (January 1941-December 1942), Amazing Man Comics featuring Meteor Martin #26-26 (December 1941-January 1942), Weird Mysteries #2 and #5 (June and December 1953), and Weird Tales of the Future #4-7 (November 1952-May 1953). Hardcover, 184 pages, full color. Cover price $52.99.

Volume 9 - 1st printing.
This Eisner Award-winning anthology series is a self-contained cross-section of the best short comics stories the globe has to offer, at a price point that is unrivaled in contemporary comics publishing.
This ninth issue of Now is anchored by the longest story featured in the magazine to date: "Misguided Love," a 40-page autobiographical tour de force by Texas artist Raquelle Jac. Ping-ponging among relationships, hospitalizations, internet "fame," international travel, sex, romance, and trauma, Jac's dense, obsessive pages read like a manifesto, announcing the arrival of a remarkable new voice in comics. This issue also features Now debuts from Hartley Lin (Young Frances), Ethel Wolfe, and Emil Friis Ernst (Doctor Murder), as well as work from Now regulars Keren Katz (The Academic Hour) and Noah Van Sciver, who homages Basil Wolverton's cult favorite, science-fiction hero, Spacehawk.
