Cover by Harry Parkhurst. Stories and art by Joe Payne and Harry Parkhurst. Western adventure featuring one of the most popular heroes of the mid-20th century, star of TV, film and radio. Technically, this issue was a one-shot at the time of its publication; Fawcett did not continue the series until 1946. Hopalong must prevent Snake Slade's diseased cattle from infecting the countryside. Someone is killing the settlers on Apache Creek, and Hopalong wants to know why. Hoppy fears the feud between two ranchers will come to a head during the upcoming rodeo. Plus a look at the history of Hopalong Cassidy, and a profile of actor William Boyd, so identified with the role that every issue of the comic carries a "starring William Boyd" banner. Hopalong Cassidy; Vultures of the V-Bar-8; The Apache Creek Nesters; Wacky World; Sheepman's Message; Death Rides the Rocking R!; Slap-Happy Makes a War Effort. 64 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.

Variant Limited Leather Edition - Signed by Grace Bradley Boyd - 1st printing. Written by Michael Cochran in the words of Grace Bradley Boyd. Grace Bradley Boyd is now 95, and her mind is razor sharp, with memories of her early days in Brooklyn and her coming to Hollywood in the early 1930's as a new Paramount starlet. She tells story after story about her and Bill, about Bill and Hoppy - here is a real story, the story of Grace and Bill, with the entire film career of both of them and the story of Hopalong Cassidy woven into the tapestry. Theirs was a love story, a remarkable one. It is a book of posters, too. And an accurate telling of how William Boyd literally became the fictional character Hopalong Cassidy, and how he soared to a worldwide popularity with millions of children. The volume features introductions by President Bill Clinton and singer Don McLean. This limited edition of only 1,000 copies is bound in real genuine cowhide (not bonded leather, real leather) with sterling silver decoration on the cover. The leather is thick because it is embossed with a special design created by leather artisan Jim Lockwood, who studied Hoppy's original gun belt at the American Heritage Center in Wyoming. Only 1000 copies have been produced, sparing no expense, and each book comes in a handmade clamshell box which is also embossed with a photo of William Boyd as Hoppy. Each copy of this edition is numbered and has been hand-signed by Grace Bradley Boyd. Hardcover (Leatherbound with a handmade clamshell box), 9 1/2-in. x 12 1/2-in., 368 pages, full color. NOTE: Limited to 1,000 copies. Cover price $300.00.
