"Unmasked at Last!" Script by Stan Lee. Art by John Romita (layouts) and Jim Mooney (finishes). Cover by John Romita. Peter Parker has been feeling very sick in recent days...and he thinks he's losing his spider-powers. So Aunt May's nephew makes a very rash decision -- to reveal his secret identity at Gwen's birthday party! Captain Stacy, Mary Jane, Harry Osborn, and Gwen are stunned by Peter's confession! But Harry recalls that his best friend did something like this once before (way back in Amazing Spider-Man #12). The following day Peter realizes that he's committed a huge blunder. And he enlists the aid of Hobie Brown (aka the Prowler) to convince his friends -- that he's not really Spider-Man. Will Peter's risky gamble pay off? (Notes: The letters page includes letters from comics writer Doug Moench and comics artist Alan Kupperberg, respectively. This issue was reprinted in Marvel Tales #68.) 32 pages. Cover price $0.15.

"The Arms of Doctor Octopus!" Part 1 of 3. Script by Stan Lee. Pencils by John Romita. Inks by Jim Mooney. Cover by John Romita. The mechanical arms of Dr. Octopus are on display in the New York Museum of Natural Science! And since Doc Ock is in prison a thousand miles away, he is unable to mentally control his arms. Or so everyone thought. Oh no! When Otto Octavius' arms escape from the museum, the police and the wall-crawler attempt to corral them, but they cannot. Eventually, the arms make it all the way to the Midwest...and free their master! Dr. Octopus is back in business! The six-armed super-villain swiftly resumes his criminal ways by hijacking an airplane and holding it for ransom! And thus setting up a battle on the tarmac vs. your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man! Cameo appearances by Gwen Stacy, Professor Miles Warren, J. Jonah Jameson, John Jameson, Betty Brant, Joe Robertson, and Captain Stacy. (Notes: The web-slinger previously clashed with Doc Ock in Amazing Spider-Man #56. This issue was reprinted in Marvel Tales #69.) 32 pages. Cover price $0.15.

"Doc Ock Lives!" Part 2 of 3. Script by Stan Lee. Pencils by Gil Kane. Inks by John Romita. Cover by John Romita. After the wild battle at Kennedy Airport last issue, the Daily Bugle publishes a headline stating that Dr. Octopus died in the plane crash. But Peter Parker doesn't believe it! And a while later at the Big Apple's main power plant, the web-slinger's worst fear is confirmed: Doc Ock lives! So the amazing one swings into action for a fantastic (and brilliantly drawn) free-for-all against Doc Ock! Cameo appearances by J. Jonah Jameson, Joe Robertson, and Randy Robertson. (Notes: This issue features Gil Kane's first artwork on the Amazing Spider-Man title. This three-part story was reprinted in 2000 in Spider-Man The Death of Captain Stacy #1; and again in 2004 in the trade paperback: Spider-Man The Death of Captain Stacy.) 32 pages. Cover price $0.15.

Death of Captain Stacy in "And Death Shall Come!" Part 3 of 3. Script by Stan Lee. Pencils by Gil Kane. Inks by John Romita. Cover by Gil Kane and John Romita. It's the third and final showdown between Doctor Octopus and the Amazing Spider-Man...in just as many days! However this time the wall-crawler has a special surprise for Doc Ock -- that might foul up his control of his mechanical arms! When the web-slinger and Dr. Octopus meet again in a rooftop clash, a crowd gathers below. Tragically, Doc Ock knocks the chimney off the roof...and it falls toward a young boy! However in heroic fashion, Captain Stacy saves the boy, but at a terrible cost to himself. Spider-Man rushes to help Gwen's father, but Captain Stacy's fate has been sealed. A sorrowful ending for all. Cameo appearances by Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn. (Notes: This Lee-Kane-Romita masterpiece was reprinted in Marvel Tales #71. The Spider-Man Death & Destiny (2000) limited series (by Lee Weeks) expands upon the aftermath of Captain Stacy's death.) 32 pages. Cover price $0.15.

This classic issue is the first of three that were not approved by the Comics Code Authority because of the (anti-)drug themed story. (Not that the Comics Code was pro-drug, of course. It's just that back then, comics couldn't mention drugs at all, even negatively.) Stan Lee published the stories anyway, which eventually led to a major revision in the code, allowing for anti-drug stories, plus other various things such as horror comics and vampires. (That's why there were suddenly tons of horror and mystery comics in the early seventies, shortly after the revision went into effect.) Anyway, back to the Spider-Man story at hand: the Green Goblin returns to annoy Spider-Man in "And Now, the Goblin." Script by Stan Lee, pencils by Gil Kane, and inks by Frank Giacoia. Kane cover. Reprinted in Marvel Tales # 77 and 191. Cover price $0.15.

The Green Goblin kills Gwen Stacy in "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," a story that fans still talk about. It was the first big shocking death in comics (perhaps even ushering in the bronze age!). Script writer Gerry Conway is remembered by many as "the writer who killed Gwen" (even though obviously Stan Lee himself okayed a story of this significance). Gil Kane provides the unforgettable pencils, with inks by John Romita Sr. and Tony Mortellaro. Romita cover. The story continues in issue #122. (Reprinted in Marvel Tales # 98 and 192.) 36 pages, full color. Cover price $0.20.
