Osprey Aviation Elite Units SC (2000-2007 OSPREY) 10-1ST

Volume 10 - 1st printing. "359th Fighter Group!" Written by Jack H Smith. Art by Tom Tullis. Nicknamed the 'Unicorns', the 359th FG was one of the last groups to arrive in the UK for service in the ETO with the Eighth Air Force. First seeing action on 13 December 1943, the group initially flew bomber escort sweeps in P-47s, before converting to the ubiquitous P-51 in March/April 1944. Throughout its time in the ETO, the 359th was credited with the destruction of 351 enemy aircraft destroyed between December 1943 and May 1945. The exploits of all 12 aces created by the group are detailed, along with the most significant missions flown. This book also discusses the various markings worn by the group's three squadrons, the 368th, 369th and 370th FSs. Softcover, 128 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $25.95.

Osprey Elite Series SC (1984-2008 OSPREY) 85-1ST

Volume 85 - 1st printing. "US Commanders of World War II Part 1!" Written by James Arnold Robert Hargis. Art by Darko Pavlovic. To be a successful commander requires experience, character, tenacity and boldness: the ability to establish a good rapport with both your staff and your men is also vital. The real test comes in combat though, where a large proportion of luck is involved - the luck to be in the right place at the right time - and lasting reputations can be formed in a very brief and frenetic period. The key US commanders of World War II were subject to (and often gratuitously fostered) the projection of their 'characters', exploiting the growing power of the media. This title examines the careers, personalities and fortunes of the key US Army and Air Force commanders of World War II. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

Osprey Essential Histories SC (2001) 32-1ST

Volume 32 - 1st printing. "The Second World War Part 6!" By Russell Hart, and Stephen A Hart. This book examines the seminal Northwest Europe campaign of the Second World War. This hard-fought campaign conducted by the Western Allies against the Germans during 1944-45 represented, for the former, the decisive theatre of the entire Second World War. From the desperate and risk-laden D-Day landings on 6 June 1944 to the rapid charge through western and central Germany in the last weeks of the war, American, British, Canadian and French military forces took on and defeated the German military. This victory ensured that the scourge of Nazism was finally expunged from the face of Europe. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $14.95.

Osprey Essential Histories SC (2001) 34-1ST

Volume 34 - 1st printing. "The French Wars 1667-1714!" By John A Lynn. Campaigns fought by Louis XIV, the Sun King, shaped the borders of European states, the destinies of royal dynasties, and even the patterns of absolutist government. This book presents the most authoritative yet accessible and succinct account of these all-important struggles available today, covering every aspect of the wars from decisions made by the king at his palace at Versailles to the life of the troops encamped in the field. Focusing on the French army, the greatest military force of the age, this tale of violence, victory, and victims balances siege and battle in a way that tells us much that is new about the Sun King and his adversaries. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $17.94.

  • Issue #376-1ST
    Osprey Men-at-Arms Series SC (1973-2011 OSPREY) 376-1ST

Volume 376 - 1st printing. "Italian Medieval Armies 1000-1300!" Written by David Nicolle. Art by Angus McBride. As early as the 11th century, Italian warfare was developing along lines which were unique in medieval Europe. This fragmented, cosmopolitan region, increasingly rich from international trade, saw the rise of independent cities able to fund armies of urban militia, sometimes defying the traditional feudal aristocracy. Against this background regional powers - the Normans, the Papacy, the German Emperors, the Angevins and Aragonese - manoeuvred for advantage. This engrossing account of the armies of northern and southern Italy - their organisation, command structure, strategy, tactics and fortifications - is illustrated with rare manuscript images, diagrams of fortifications, and eight striking colour plates showing armour and weapons of all types. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

  • Issue #57-1ST
Osprey Warrior Series SC (1993-2011 OSPREY) 57-1ST

Volume 57- 1st printing. "French Napoleonic Infantryman 1803-15!" Written by Terry Crowdy. Art by Christa Hook. This title draws on contemporary testimonies of life in Napoleon's army, documenting the reality of conscription, training, camp life and combat action for the common infantry soldier. In contrast to most works on this period, it calls into question the propagandist views expounded by numerous Bonapartists - the romantic notion of La Gloire is very much tempered by some hard-hitting recollections of the horror and misery of military life 200 years ago. Packed with prints taken from contemporary sources and superb colour illustrations, it provides a concise, revealing and authentic portrait of life in the Grand Armée. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.
