In this volume, learn how millions of bison once roamed the American prairie-until they were nearly driven to extinction.
Turn back the clock to the early 18th century, when the American prairies shook under the hooves of nearly 30 million bison. Fast as a horse, tall as a person, and heavier than both combined, they roamed from coast to coast. A century later, people struggled to find a single one left alive. How did the great herds disappear, and what will it take to bring them back?

Variant Limited Leather Edition - Signed by Grace Bradley Boyd - 1st printing. Written by Michael Cochran in the words of Grace Bradley Boyd. Grace Bradley Boyd is now 95, and her mind is razor sharp, with memories of her early days in Brooklyn and her coming to Hollywood in the early 1930's as a new Paramount starlet. She tells story after story about her and Bill, about Bill and Hoppy - here is a real story, the story of Grace and Bill, with the entire film career of both of them and the story of Hopalong Cassidy woven into the tapestry. Theirs was a love story, a remarkable one. It is a book of posters, too. And an accurate telling of how William Boyd literally became the fictional character Hopalong Cassidy, and how he soared to a worldwide popularity with millions of children. The volume features introductions by President Bill Clinton and singer Don McLean. This limited edition of only 1,000 copies is bound in real genuine cowhide (not bonded leather, real leather) with sterling silver decoration on the cover. The leather is thick because it is embossed with a special design created by leather artisan Jim Lockwood, who studied Hoppy's original gun belt at the American Heritage Center in Wyoming. Only 1000 copies have been produced, sparing no expense, and each book comes in a handmade clamshell box which is also embossed with a photo of William Boyd as Hoppy. Each copy of this edition is numbered and has been hand-signed by Grace Bradley Boyd. Hardcover (Leatherbound with a handmade clamshell box), 9 1/2-in. x 12 1/2-in., 368 pages, full color. Krazy Little Comics (1967 Topps): Jester's League of America is one of sixteen parody mini-comics originally produced as test market items in 1967, by the Topps Chewing Gum Company. They did not see full national distribution. All were written by Roy Thomas and feature Wally Wood cover and interior art. These minis spoof not only Marvel and DC super-heroes, but other comic characters as well, like the Phantom, Prince Valiant, and Tarzan. These possibly predate, or are at least contemporaneous with, Not Brand Ecch! #1 (08/1967), and are among the rarest of the Merry Marvel Marching Society era items. 1st printing. By Paul Buhle. Readers have long cherished the work of comic masters such as Will Eisner, Jules Feiffer, and Art Spiegelman, all of whom happen to be Jewish. Few, however, are probably aware that the Jewish role in creating the American comic art form is no less significant than the Jewish influence on Hollywood filmmaking. Filled with the most stunning examples of this vital artistic tradition, Jews and American Comics tells us how the people of the book became the people of the comic book. With three brief essays by Paul Buhle, the well-known historian of American Jewish life, Jews and American Comics offers readers a pictorial backstory tracing Jewish involvement in comic art from several little-known strips in Yiddish newspapers of the early twentieth century through the mid-century origins of the modern comic book and finally to contemporary comic art, which has at last found its place in museums, in private collections, and on the bookshelves of both critics and millions of avid readers. Featuring more than two hundred examples of the work of Jewish comic artists going back a century—much of which has been unavailable to the general public for decades—this extraordinary collection will be a major contribution to Jewish and American cultural history. Jews and American Comics is also a gorgeous package, sure to be treasured by comic art lovers and fans of Jewish culture—and destined to become the bar and bat mitzvah gift of the decade. Hardcover, 9 1/2-in. x 9 1/2-in., 196 pages, B&W. Cover price $29.95.

Updated Edition - 1st printing. By David Gantz. Jews in America is a graphic history that uses the comic book format - an artistic expression as American as jazz - to depict five centuries of Jewish life in this country. With its blend of humor, history, and old-fashioned sentimentality, Gantz, an artist who has spent a lifetime using paper and ink to present social commentary and issues with wry wit, illustrates the prominence of Jews in American history from the time Columbus first set foot in the New World until the present day. Softcover, 10-in. x 12-in., full color. Cover price $28.00.
