1st printing. What could possibly account for the scope and longevity of the Star Trek phenomenon? With legions of impassioned fans and a life span of 30 years and counting, the Star Trek television and film corpus has made Gene Roddenberry's creation nothing less than an American mythology. Deep Space and Sacred Time examines for the first time in book-length form the many ways Star Trek has served as a mythic reference point for American society--and suggests that an understanding of this might help us to see ourselves more clearly as a culture. Moreover, this thoughtful and thought-provoking work posits that Star Trek offers its audience a sense of hope and, in the setting of an orderly cosmos, the possibility for empowerment. Hardcover, 264 pages, Text Only. Cover price $27.95.

1st Printing - Uncorrected Proof Edition - Written by Alexander Jablokov. The twenty-first-century solar system is a smaller, more crowded place. Eleven extraterrestrial races have settled the planets and moons, sometimes interacting with human beings, sometimes ignoring them altogether in pursuit of their own enigmatic ends. On Venus, the massive Bgarth tunnel tirelesly beneath the soil, transforming the planet in strange and unpredictable ways. On Mercury, insectoid Gunners fire their isotopic cannon into the heart of the Sun for reasons no one can fathom. And on Earth, human clans struggle to possess the eggs of the Ulanyi, whose powerful placental minds confer social and political prominence. The alien races reached human space with faster-than-light drives -- deepdrives -- designed to self-destruct after use, taking the secret of their construction with them. Without deepdrives of their own, humans have no way to cross the vast, interstellar gulf separating them from galactic civilization, no way to compete as equals in the greatest game of all. But then a renegade Vronnan, Ripi-Arana-Hoc, crashes on Venus and is taken into "protective custody." Ripi is the only Vronnan ever to enter the solar system. There is no telling what he knows -- perhaps even the elusive secret of the deepdrive. But Ripi isn't talking. Now a ragtag group of mercenaries, thrown together by chance and failure, determines to break Ripi out and learn his secrets for themselves. There is Soph, embittered by a shattered marriage and the tragic death of her son. Elward, the muscle of the outfit, who has a thing for pain...his own. Tiber, a space pirate with a checkered past. And Soph's mysterious ex-husband, Lightfoot, whose motives are as opaque as those of any alien. But in a search for the deceptive, nothing is as it seems, no one exactly who -- or what -- they appear to be. There are no easy answers, only layer upon layer of secrets and lies. And as events set in motion long ago and far away by Ripi begin to ripple into human space, it is no longer clear who are the hunters, who the hunted. Softcover, 5" x 7", 312 pages, B&W, text only. Cover price $14.00.

1st printing. Story and art by Michael Regina. There's nothing that Wade and his younger brother, Andrew, love more than fishing together. As summer draws to a close, they're excited for one last hoorah before classes begin and they end up at different schools for the first time. But a typical fishing trip with their best friends, Camilla and Tommy, quickly takes a darker turn. As heavy fog creeps over the creek, Andrew hooks something big-too big. In a moment of chaos, the brothers end up overboard. There, in the murky depths, they get a glimpse of what waits at the end of the line. And it seems far more monster than fish. Wade and the others wonder if the recent hurricane that hit the area may have stirred up more than just water, unleashing something horrible from below. Their parents don't believe they saw anything at all. But if there really is something out there, the kids know someone needs to stop it. So, they decide to do what they do best and go fishing for their biggest catch yet: evidence of a real-life river monster. Will these four friends be able to prove everyone wrong and save the creek, or are they about to discover they're in way over their heads... and in deep trouble? Softcover, 6-in.x 9-in., 256 pages, full color. Cover price $13.99.

Story and art by Johnny Gruelle.
Johnny Gruelle's unjustly forgotten masterpiece is reprinted here for the first time since its initial appearance in 1911.
Gruelle depicted a charming, fantastical world filled with light whimsy and outlandish surrealism. The artwork is among the most stunning ever to grace an Amercian newspaper page, and Gruelle's painterly colors makes every page look like it was created on a canvas. This volume will present the first year of the forgotten masterpiece and selected episodes from later years, as well as special drawings, promotional material, and related artwork.

1st printing. Charles Burns is the creator of the landmark horror graphic novel Black Hole, currently in production as a major motion picture directed by David Fincher. Skin Deep is the third (following El Borbah and Big Baby) of a series of three volumes collecting his acclaimed oeuvre up to Black Hole. Skin Deep includes Burns' popular character Dog Boy (a red-blooded all-American boy with the transplanted heart of a dog) and the classic strip "Dog Days," in which a hash-slinging vixen wags her tail at our fearful hero. The book also collects "Burn Again," which features a strange fella named Bliss Blister, claiming to bring the Word of God, but some fear he brings something evil and profane. In "A Marriage Made in Hell," a young wife's flesh tingled with passion, but the sight of her made her husband's skin crawl. Was the love-knot she tied really a hangman's noose? These tales of doomed romance set a tone for the rest of Skin Deep. In addition to the comics, Skin Deep includes several pages of illustrations reprinted from Burns' sketchbooks as well as covers and other pieces from foreign editions of the author's work. Softcover, 10-in. x 13-in., 96 pages, B&W. Cover price $16.99.
