Written by Kevin J. Anderson. Art by Dario Carrasco, Jr., Mark G. Heike, Bill Black and David Jacob Beckett. Cover by Russell Walks. When Gav and Jori Daragon set off to map the uncharted regions of hyperspace, they knew they were risking their lives. But they thought it would be an unsuspected cluster of debris that would take them out of the game, not their successful discovery of a series of hyperspace "short cuts." The Sith Empire wants to know where these routes are -- wants to hold the only map to these routes -- so that it can maintain an iron grip on the galaxy. And the lives of a couple of explorers mean very little to these masters of the dark side of the Force. 32 pages, FC. Cover price $2.95.

Volume 3 - 1st printing. "Summer 1947 - Summer 1948!" Collects The Spirit (1944-1950 Quality) #9-12. Written by Will Eisner. Art by Will Eisner and Lou Fine. Cover by Will Eisner. The Spirit is a fictional masked crime fighter created by cartoonist Will Eisner, who fights crime with the blessing of the city's police commissioner Dolan, an old friend. Despite the Spirit's origin as detective/criminologist Denny Colt, his real identity was rarely referred to after his first appearance, and for all intents and purposes he was simply "The Spirit." The stories are presented in a wide variety of styles, from straight forward crime drama and noir to lighthearted adventure, from mystery and horror to comedy and love stories, often with hybrid elements that twisted genre and reader expectations. Comic book stories from the 1940s and 1950s may depict some ethnic and racial prejudices that were once commonplace in American culture. While not representing the publisher's view of today's society, these stories are printed as they were originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Softcover, 208 pages, full color. Cover price $32.99.

Volume 3 - 1st printing. "Fox Features: The Heroic Wave!" One of the first publishers from comics' Golden Age to extensively use superheroes was Fox Features, and this overview reprints a selection of their best, including Green Mask, The Flame, Samson, The Lynx, The Eagle, The Black Rider, Stardust, Nightbird, and The Dart. Though none of the Fox heroes achieved breakthrough status into the mainstream of pop culture, their competitors saw the formula for their own future success in the Fox publications. Victor Fox's colorful superhero anthologies Science, Weird, Mystery Men, Wonderworld, and the rest were highly influential on other publishers and the comic book market in general. Fox was an early outlet for future creative giants including Bob Kane, Will Eisner, Joe Simon, Jack Kirby and countless others. This volume focuses on their superhero output of 1939 through 1942. Hardcover, 208 pages, full color. Cover price $52.99.

Volume 3 - 1st printing. Lou Fine was one of the most impressive and influential artists to ever work in comics. His fluid figures were admired and copied by such greats as Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. In addition to his impressive covers, he worked on such comics as the Black Condor; aka Richard Grey Jr. having lost his parents was raised by giant black condors and after studying his condor foster parents, he learned to fly. He befriended a hermit monk named Father Pierre who convinced him that he should use his unique attributes to do good and so was born the Black Condor. Lou Fine also created The Ray, a reporter named Hubert "Happy" Terrill who was covering the story of a high-flying "strato-balloon" exploring the upper atmosphere. An electrical storm struck and while closing the outer airlock door, "Happy" got the full brunt of the storm's energy and the unfiltered sunlight giving him his super powers to absorb energy from his surroundings and emit it from his body in any form he chose, also using it to propel himself through the air. Hardcover, 184 pages, full color. All Ages Cover price $52.99.
