Volumes 1 and 2 (with Slipcase) - 1st printing. Harvey Kurtzman changed the face of American humor when he created the legendary MAD comic. As editor and chief writer from its inception in 1952, through its transformation into a slick magazine, and until he left MAD in 1956, he influenced an entire generation of cartoonists, comedians, and filmmakers. In 1962, he co-created the long-running Little Annie Fanny with his long-time artistic partner Will Elder for Playboy, which he continued to produce until his virtual retirement in 1988. Between MAD and Annie Fanny, Kurtzman's biographical summaries will note that he created and edited three other magazines, Trump, Humbug, and Help!, but, whereas his MAD and Annie Fanny are readily available in reprint form, his major satirical work in the interim period is virtually unknown. Humbug, which had poor distribution, may be the least known, but to those who treasure the rare original copies, it equals or even exceeds MAD in displaying Kurtzman's creative genius. Humbug was unique in that it was actually published by the artists who created it: Kurtzman and his cohorts from MAD Will Elder, Jack Davis, and Al Jaffee, were joined by universally acclaimed cartoonist Arnold Roth. With no publisher above them to rein them in, this little band of creators produced some of the most trenchant and engaging satire of American culture ever to appear on American newsstands. At last, the entire run of 11 issues of Humbug is being reprinted in a deluxe format, much of it reproduced from the original art, allowing even owners of the original cheaply-printed issues to see the full impact of these creators' artistry for the first time. Hardcover (2 Volumes with Slipcase), 8-in. x 10-in., PC/PB&W. Cover price $60.00.

    By Tom Clancy.

Tom Clancy's rich imagination and his remarkable grasp of the capabilities of advanced technology give this novel an amazing ring of authenticity. It is a thriller with a new twist, a "military procedural" with an ingenious, tightly woven plot that revolves around the defection of a Soviet nuclear submarine—the USSR's newest and most valuable ship, with its most trusted and skilled officer at the helm.

A deadly serious game of hide-and-seek is on. The entire Soviet Atlantic Fleet is ordered to hunt down the submarine and destroy her at all costs. The Americans are determined to find her first and get her safely to port in the intelligence coups of all time. But the Red October has a million square miles of ocean to hide in and a new silent propulsion system that is impossible to detect. Or is it?

Her daring and cunning captain, Marko Ramius, thinks so. The commander of the Soviet's fastest attack submarine, however, is confident that he will find his prey. And Bart Mancuso, the aggressive commander of the U.S. Navy attack sub the Dallas, is counting on the sensitive ears of his resourceful young sonar operator to identify Red October's unique sound print and track her down.

The nerve-wracking hunt goes on for eighteen days as the Red October stealthily eludes her hunters across 4,000 miles of ocean. But just short of Ramius's objective, his submarine converges with the others in a rousing climax that is one of the most thrilling underwater scenes ever written. Can the start of all-out war be avoided? The outcome is clear only on the very last pages.

    Hardcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 388 pages, Text Only.

1st printing. Story and art by Matthias Lehman. A road movie featuring two detectives, René and Agatha, on the tracks of Robert Illot, a serial killer whose modus operandi is to suffocate his victim with various objects (including chickens and lightbulbs) along the highways and byways of France. As they get closer and closer to catching up with him, seeking out and interrogating men and women from his past life at the insane asylum, he always stays one step ahead, and the row of corpses grows longer and longer... In this lengthy original graphic novel by Matthias Lehmann (released to great acclaim in his native France earlier this year), dreams and flashbacks converge with the ongoing narrative. Written in Lehmann's hypnotic and insanely labor-intensive woodcut style to form a dark and disquieting vision of humanity. Hardcover, 6-in. x 8-in., 240 pages, B&W. Star System Cover price $19.95.

    1st printing.

Story and art by Gilbert Hernandez.

Collects (and expands!) the graphic novellas "Hypnotwist" and "Scarlet by Starlight" from Love and Rockets: New Stories in a handsome "Double Feature" package.

In the Eisner Award-winning wordless comic (silent movie?) "Hypnotwist," Hernandez's B-movie star Fritz plays a character who doesn't seem to be going anywhere, until she puts on a pair of glittery pumps. Her wanderings become increasingly surreal as she confronts motherhood, alcoholism, a sinister smiley face, cruelty, and her worst fate: "Killer" cameos! Includes 16 pages of previously unpublished, additional material. "Scarlet by Starlight" is a B movie that's Star Trek meets Heart of Darkness. "Scientists," or colonizers, are doing research, surrounded by "primitive" fauna they affectionately nickname or treat like pests. Fritz plays Scarlet, a peaceful, catlike humanoid with a mate and children. When she becomes infatuated with one of the scientists, the fragile web of relationships explodes into violence and death, calling into question who the "advanced, civilized" creatures really are.

The two graphic novellas that comprise the book will be published together with two covers, so the two stories each end in the middle of the book (with the one you're not reading being upside down). This very cool, handsome "Double Feature" package will be an essential item for Love and Rockets completists!

    Hardcover, 5 1/2-in. x 8-in., 104 pages, B&W. Mature Readers

Discover the incredible untold story of one of Star Wars' most iconic characters, C-3PO, told by the man who knows him best.

For the very first time, Anthony Daniels will tell C-3PO's story in its entirety, from seeing the first concept images to the early stages of the final film in the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: Episode IX, and in the process, will also tell his own. This includes his encounters with movie legends such as Sir Alec Guinness, what it was like working closely with George Lucas, and the friendships he formed with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and others.
