Mama Tomoko keeps her sons happy and healthy while her husband's away, and eldest son Hiroki, for his part, jokes and dissembles his way around the not-so-little "secret" of his sexuality while figuring things out for himself. But even though Hiroki's got his mom and kid brother in his corner for his personal journey, his dad is another story. There's no doubt that Akiyoshi Aoyama loves his son, but he's oblivious to the high schooler's struggles and hasn't grasped how hurtful his casually wielded assumptions and stereotypes can be. Will love be enough to see father and son through? Or will Tomoko have to step in and do what she does best? Be her son's greatest ally, that is! Softcover, 128 pages, B&W. Story and art by Grant Snider.
It's no secret, but we are judged by our bookshelves. We learn to read at an early age, and as we grow older we shed our beloved books for new ones. But some of us surround ourselves with books. We collect them, decorate with them, are inspired by them, and treat our books as sacred objects.
In this lighthearted collection of one- and two-page comics, writer-artist Grant Snider explores bookishness in all its forms, and the love of writing and reading.

1st printing. Story and art by Maurice Vellekoop. Meet little Maurice Vellekoop, the youngest of four children raised by Dutch immigrants in the 1970s in a blue-collar suburb of Toronto. Despite their working-class milieu, the Vellekoops are devoted to art, music, and film, and they instill a deep reverence for the arts in young Maurice-except for literature. He'd much rather watch Cher and Carol Burnett on TV than read a book. He also loves playing with his girlfriends' Barbie dolls and helping his Mum in her hair salon, which she runs out of the basement of their house. In short, he is really, really gay. Which is a huge problem, because the family is part of the Christian Reformed Church, a strict Calvinist sect. Needless to say, the church is intolerant of homosexuality. Though she loves her son deeply, Maurice's mother, Ann, cannot accept him, setting the course for a long estrangement. Vellekoop struggles through all of this until he graduates from high school and is accepted into the Ontario College of Art in the early 1980s. Here he finds a welcoming community of bohemians, including a brilliant, flamboyantly gay professor who encourages him to come out. But just as he's dipping his toes into the waters of gay sex and love, a series of romantic disasters, followed by a violent attack, sets him back severely. And then the shadow of the AIDS era descends. I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together is an enthralling portrait of what it means to be true to yourself, to learn to forgive, and to be an artist. Hardcover, 496 pages, full color. Mature Readers Cover price $35.00.

1st prinitng. "It's not as cold here as it sounds." So declares Random Wilder, would-be poet laureate. Would be, were it not for the archival poet Ida Wentz. Random is our ersatz guide to the sleepy midwestern hamlet, and just one of the many character we meet in Ice Haven. While Dan Clowes has gotten a nod from the mainstream - and Oscar nomination for the screen adaptation of Ghost World - his work remains wonderfully idiosyncratic and imaginative. The lives of the men and women of Ice Haven are woven into a multi-layered tale inspired by the infamous Leopold and Loeb. Only Daniel Clowes could do it, and luckily for his many fans, he has! Softcover (Horizontal Format), 8-in. x 5-in., 90 pages, full color. Cover price $16.00.

1st printing. Story and art by Eunnie. Momo Gardner is the kind of friend who's always ready to lend a helping hand. She's introverted, sensitive, and maybe a little too trusting, but she likes to believe the best in people. PG, on the other hand, is a bit of a lone wolf, despite her reputation for being a flirt and a player. Underneath all that cool mystery, she's actually quick to smile, and when she falls for someone, she falls hard. An unexpected meet-cute brings the two together, kicking off the beginning of an awkward yet endearing courtship-but with their drastically different personalities, Momo's overprotective friend, and PG's past coming back to haunt her, Momo and PG's romance is put to the test. Softcover, 8-in. x 10-in., 336 pages, full color. Cover price $17.99.

Edited by Ana Merino. Translated by Marta González-Cutre.
A dazzling combination of comics and essays sheds light on the rich but often overlooked contributions of Spanish immigrants to the political, cultural, and scientific history of the US.
Since the very founding of the United States, the country's history has been intertwined with that of Spain's, in many essential yet often overlooked ways. Illustrating Spain in the US brings together some of Spain's most acclaimed cartoonists and scholars to celebrate and interrogate the contributions of Spanish immigrants to America's political, cultural, and scientific history.
Diplomat Eduardo Garrigues and cartoonist Rayco Pulido resurrect the historical figure of Bernardo de Gálvez, who played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War. Professor James Fernández, Filmmaker Luis Argeo and artists Ana Penyas and Seisdedos bring to life the rollicking immigrant enclave of Tampa, once known as the "Cigar Capital of the World." Professor Estrella de Diego and cartoonist Carla Berrocal shed light on the Spanish actors, screenwriters and musicians who broke into Hollywood and made their mark on American cinema. Professor María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco and cartoonist Max lead readers through the labyrinthine history of Spanish art collecting in the US, and the influence of Spanish art on popular American art movements. And much more! Combining the graphic expressiveness of comic art with the illuminating perspective of scholarly essays, this project aims to spark a creative dialogue about Spain's legacy in the US.
Hardcover, 8 1/2-in. x 10 1/2-in., 120 pages, B&W.
