Stories and art by Charles Biro, August Froehlich, Stan Schendel, and Fred Meagher. Sometimes listed as Tom Mix Commandos Comics #12. When movie cowboy Tom Mix's radio show hit it big, sponsor Ralston Purina offered Tom Mix Comics by mail for two boxtops of any Ralston cereal. The art, often uncredited, is exceptionally nice in this series. Tom Mix investigates when strange winged creatures begin attacking Allied ships and aircraft in the Pacific theater. Miserly Uncle Amos goes on night patrol, but he refuses to buy a map and instantly gets lost in a gym, in a story with art by comics legend Charles Biro. Navy pilot Speed O'Dare and redheaded secret agent Karen Dale fly a stolen bomber out of Nazi Germany with two captured generals, but trouble follows when the prisoners escape. The series takes a strong turn toward WWII home-front propaganda with material like What Every Young Patriot Should Know and Commandos and Their Weapons. Plus activities pages and magic tricks. Awesome pterodactyl-attack cover by an unknown artist. Terrible Talons of Tokyo; Commandos and Their Weapons; Secrets of the Tom Mix Commandos; The Fumble Family and Uncle Amos; Jane's Home Front Page; Jane of Dream Castle; Makum War; Speed O'Dare. Final issue of the series. 32 pages, Full Color.
