Story, Art, and Cover by Clifford Neal. The first issue of Dr. Wirtham's Comix & Stories was written and illustrated entirely by publisher Clifford Neal, who adopted the pseudonym Oisif Egaux throughout this book (and for most of his other comic book appearances). Much of Neal's art, particularly in this comic, has a distinctive, heavy cross-hatch style. Perhaps this style is derived from Neal's fascination with binary systems analysis (essentially, computer programming, but Neal's interpretation appears to apply to art and human perception). His text article "Decoding The Codex" may help explain his fascination, but I find it essentially incomprehensible. In any case, the artwork is oddly striking and dynamic. 6 1/2-in. x 9-in., 36 pages, B&W. MATURE READERS

First appearance of the Air-Walker Automaton in "The Horror That Walks on Air!" Part 1 of 4. Script by Stan Lee. Pencils by John Buscema. Inks by Joe Sinnott. WRITTEN BY WALTER SIMONSON; ART BY JERRY ORDWAY AND P. CRAIG RUSSELL; COVER BY ADAM HUGHES "The Game of the Gods" Pt. 2 of 6, continues as an amnesiac Wonder Woman struggles to regain her memory! Returned to the streets of New York and hunted by unexpected adversaries, only Diana's innate skills enable her to survive. Will a devoted fan provide the answers she needs? And why does Wonder Woman adopt yet another new look? "Cutting Wonder Woman's hair is far from the biggest twist in the 'Game of the Gods,'" says Editor Ivan Cohen. "There are plenty of reasons for new readers to come back for the remaining chapters. Everyone involved Walt and Jerry, who came up with the haircut notion; Adam Hughes, whose cover image has helped catch the attention of the mainstream media; P. Craig Russell, John Workman, and of course, Trish Mulvihill has really poured their heart and soul into these issues. It's fantastic to see their work get the attention it deserves."
