1st printing. Story and art by Yvan Alagbe. Colonial history haunts this stunning, spectral-looking graphic novel, a spiritual sequel to the author's Yellow Negroes and Other Imaginary Creatures. Yvan Alagbé continues his interrogation of race and family in modern France. The book focuses on the dream-like memories of a woman named Clare, who is spending time with her family for her grandfather's funeral. Alagbé shifts between narratives of the family, all haunted by the legacy of France's colonial subjugation of Africa. Alagbé works in stormy grayscale washes, using comics, as he puts it, as "a sacred dimension which celebrates, questions and perpetuates life.... I believe that life is not damnation but grace." Softcover, 8 1/2-in. x 10 1/2-in., 232 pages, full color. Mature Readers Cover price $29.95.

Volume 1 - 1st printing. By Hitoshi Iwaaki. Experience the immortal horror manga as it was originally meant to be read! For the first time in more than a decade, the Parasyte Paperback Collection pairs Hitoshi Iwaakis original, black-and-white art with a revised translation and updated interior and cover design. Teenager Shinichi wakes up one night to discover a creature crawling under the skin of his right arm. This is a Parasite, a creature that takes control of a persons body and turns it into a shapeshifting monstrosity hungry for human flesh. Shinichi has managed to stop his parasite with a tourniquet, and as a result, it takes over only his arm, leaving two consciousnesses sharing one body and dependent on each other to survive. As parasites take control of more and more people, rumors spread of brutal murders committed by terrible abominations—heads splitting open to reveal mouths of sharp teeth, batlike wings erupting from backs, blades tearing through soft bellies. Only Shinichi knows for sure that these rumors are all true. But can he find a way to live without destroying everyone he cares about, much less save the rest of humanity? Complete in eight volumes, Parasyte Paperback Collection features the translation, lettering, and size of the recent, acclaimed hardcover Parasyte Full Color Collection. This timeless manga inspired the global smash hit anime Parasyte -the maxim- and the live-action TV drama from the director of Train to Busan, Parasyte: The Grey. Softcover, 5 1/2-in.x 8-in., 288 pages, Text. Rated T+ Cover price $14.99.

Philip K. Dick: A Comics Biography HC (2019 NBM) 1-1ST

    (see more images)

    1st printing.

Story and art by Laurent Queyssi and Mauro Marchesi.

One of the greatest writers in SF history, Philip K. Dick is mostly remembered for movies based on his works such as Blade Runner, Minority Report, and Total Recall. His dark fascinating work centered on alternate universes and shifting realities in worlds often governed by monopolistic corporations and authoritarian governments. His own life story seems a tussle with reality, going through five wives and becoming increasingly disjointed with fits of paranoia and hallucinations fueled by abuse of drugs meant to stabilize him. His dramatic story is presented unvarnished in this comics biography.

    Hardcover, 144 pages, full color.

    Cover price $24.99.

Volume 1 - 1st printing. "September 1940-December 1941/July 1941!" Collects Silver Streak Comics (1939-1946) #6-17 and Daredevil Comics (1941-1949 Lev Gleason) [Daredevil Battles Hitler] #1. Cover by Jack Cole. Daredevil is a fictional superhero created by Jack Binder. As a child, Bart Hill was witness to his parents' brutal murder. The murderer also branded Bart with a hot iron, leaving a boomerang-shaped scar on the left side of his chest. This traumatic experience left the boy mute. He trained his entire life in the art of the boomerang, eventually becoming a master boomerang marksman. He then donned a costume and took to the streets as the vigilante crime-fighter known as Daredevil. However... for Bart Hill/Daredevil's second appearance showed him able to speak and it was later revealed that his parents were killed while in Australia, with Bart then raised by a tribe of aborigines who taught him the art of using boomerangs. As an adult, he returned to the U.S. and fought crime as Daredevil. Lev Gleason launched Daredevil's own comic with Daredevil Battles Hitler #1 (July 1941), in which Daredevil and other Silver Streak heroes fought the German chancellor. It was written and partially drawn by Charles Biro, who in his 16-year run would make the character one of the most acclaimed of the Golden Age. Softcover, 184 pages, full color. Cover price $32.99.
